| Ohhh, the best since Dirty Boogie.... (for you, of course!) ?? Guitar Slinger is to me, the best BSO album done so far!! It's like the Live Nude Guitars of the BSO. It rocks, it swings, it jives and the best is that it's been recorded LIVE in the studio! |

Is this a warm welcome or what? Thanks Andi! Actually, I've been here before but didn't log in for too long so I had to re-create my account... hence the "first" post.
| Andi wrote: | I can't remember an album ever before that made me want to hear so many of the songs live, sooo badly! This song is one of the ones that I REALLY want to hear on stage with all those strings - the Gibson Amphitheater in LA is supposed to have amazing acoustics, and I'll be there for both shows. It'd be so incredible to hear that song played there, but I have a feeling that's a bit too much to hope for |
I feel the same. To tell the truth, I've never seen the BSO live (never played much over here in Belgium, I'm afraid) and I've never set foot in the US. But I will travel to NY and witness the BSO for the first time at the Hammerstein Ballroom. And in Brian's hometown too, should be a night to remember! Even more so if he plays a few songs off this new record! |

| Dave, you'll have a ball. Even though I've seen the BSO many times, I've never seen the Christmas Extravaganza - and you'll see it before me so be sure to report back on what you think! Got another Facebook vote for Dimes in the Jar - c'mon, Dimes! I'm rootin' for ya! |

| I got my copy today. How I could I wait so longfor it? I've been listening to it the whole day now, and can't get enugh of it. I must say, that I am a huge Swing fan, and this is exactly what I had hoped Brian would do. I dig the evilness in this kind of Swing music. The Songs and the Arrangements are awesome, I can't get 'em out of my head. I can't stop saying good stuff about this album I love the Songs, I love the Arrangements, I love the Sound, I love the dark powerfull minor-chords, I love that they included a Vibraphone and I especially love the whole feeling of the CD. What's btaking me to the only critics I have. I have some problem with the Instrumentals. I really like Brians playing in them, and I really don't think they're bad, but they just don't fit to the rest I think. Same for "gimme some rhythm" don't get me wrong I think it's a great tune, and I know that I'm gonna be dancing to it more than a couple of times, but it just sounds too happy and friendly for me when I'm already packed by the darkness of the other Songs. Altogether that is definetly one of the best BSO Albums for me. It perfectly does what a good Song needs to do with me. It's putting a lot of strong Pictures in my head! My favorite Song a t the moment is "Kiss me deadly" When's the next Bond-movie coming out? Wouldn't "Love Partners in crime", "King of the whole damn world", "Kiss me deadly" or "Dead man incorporated" be a perfect title/titlesong? |

| OK – I have the cd on auto repeat now for 5 days so I feel I can now make a valued judgement on the tracks as they appeal to me The stand out track? By far King of the Whole Damn WorldIt is very interesting to see which tracks people like and don’t like here – I seem to be running against popular opinion somewhat – but that’s OK because all our opinions are correct – its how these songs appeal to us as individuals I would agree with Webelvis in that you can judge the songs by how well they paint a picture or story in your mind as you listen to them – to me only some of these songs are able to do this As a whole the songs fall easily for me into three categories. ExcellentDead Man Incorporated Gimme Some Rhythm Daddy King of the Whole Damn World Mr Jazzer Goes Surfin’ Mr Surfer Goes Jazin’ My Baby Don’t Love Me Blues GoodTrouble Train Kiss Me Deadly Lonely Avenue Elena ForgettableLove Partners In Crime Passion of the Night Dimes In The Jar It’s a good cd (and very welcome as always to get new songs from Mr Setzer) but is too inconsistent to rank as my favourite BSO release. I must commend the orchestral arrangements as they really do add to the tracks – the playing is of a consistently high standard however there is a part of me that yearns to hear what Mr Bernie Dresel and Mr Mark Winchester would have done with material – I think they would have lifted the more up tempo tunes to a higher level than has been recorded |

That's also been on my mind while listening to the album. In no way do I want to disrespect the drum and bass work as it stands but I do think Bernie & Mark have more fire in their playing which certainly appeals to me a little more. |

Are you talking about the fade in where Brian appears to say "Cranberry Sauce," but if you listen closely, it's really "I buried Tom Waits"?

| Got the cd for 3 days now and heard it many times by now. I agree with Webelvis that the 3 songs Mr. jazzer..Mr. surfer... and Elena is some kind of...well they don't suit the rest of the cd. They would have suited the Ignition cd very well I think. But I have to say that the rest of the songs is totally awesome. For me this is the best BSO cd ever. The Wolfgang cd comes in second. For me, the reasons that I like Lonely and wolfgang the best is? Frank Comstock..The man who have done almost every horn and string arrangements for the 2 cd´s. the arrangements is so melodic and exciting, the horns leaves space for each other, sometimes is just the saxes, then the trombones, then trompets, and sometimes all at ones but always with some cool licks and chords that suits the song so very well. That is what I'm really missing on many of the other BSO cd´s. They tend to sound a little chaotic overplayed and unstructured in their arrangements I think. The other reason why I like this new cd the best? For the first time (the second if you count the wolfgang with) I feel that it isn't Brian Setzer AND the Orchestra............ it is: THE BRIAN SETZER ORCHESTRA ...it's one big band of course still with the great singer and guitarist mr.Setzer and I really like the songs (could very well contain some of Brian's finest songs)... I'm glad that there isn't songs of cars, Johnny kool, leaky carburetors, drive like lightning, hot rods on this new cd. I like all those songs but I think I'm ready to hear about something else. This could very well be The Brian Setzer Orchestra's "revolver" album "boys I've got the the sign, the pieces fit, the stars align" Setzer is the king of the whole damn world--- |

| Well said, Ian! I couldn't agree more about the cohesiveness of this BSO album. I appreciate Steve's opinion and clarification by listing his favorite BSO tunes on the Elena thread. It would seem that Steve and a few other critics prefer the BSO as a rockabilly band with horns. I like it when the Orchestra is the "instrument." And these arrangements are easily the most fully-formed of the BSO's existence. While Frank Comstock deserves a lot of credit, I also want to commend long-time Setzer arranger Mark Jones for his work on "Trouble Train." I still can't pick a favorite song, but "Trouble Train's easily in my Top 3. The best thing about Mark Jones? He's not 87 years old. As much as I want the Comstock-Setzer partnership to continue (and tough-guy Comstock may write fantastic arrangements for years until he passes on at age 115), I am glad Mark continues to contribute his talents to the BSO.
