I regularly Google Le Setz to see if there are new articles, etc - this morning for the first time Google turned up music results right at the top! I swear Google becomes more useful every day! I think results display differently depending on your region and settings though. This is what it looks like for me. (The fact that MY NAME is the first freakin' thing shown in the text description for BrianSetzer.com is a trip and a half!! )

For the past several months, Brian Setzer has given me reason to smile every single day. You can bet I'm gonna hold onto that for as long as possible!

OK, Andi, you know the drill: take pictures for a bit, then when it comes time to get paid, make sure you don't get screwed! Boy, I crack me up...

Nice one Bear Back on the topic of the thread, the Google search made me curious as to how the results are determined. So I Googled "Brian Setzer Orchestra." Again Google offers a few songs at the top (all from Dirty Boogie) followed by a link to briansetzer.com where the text description actually includes the words "Brian Setzer Orchestra" - so it would appear the text description is based on the first time the searched term appears on the linked page. I hope Surfdog will use the term "Brian Setzer" near the top of briansetzer.com again soon, having me turning up in the results kinda freaks me out I think displaying song results is very useful, but what songs are displayed is apparently based on the popularity of the tunes at iLike. There's obviously some kinda partnership thing going on there, rather than showing organic results from across the entire internet. It'd be nice to see results from Lonely Avenue show up - showing the newest in addition to the most popular tunes would certainly give searchers more well-rounded results. I've been learning a lot about search engine optimization (SEO) at my job - it's kinda fascinating to see how much the results can be manipulated. Search is king these days, if Surfdog got a good SEO person on staff they could have Lonely Ave results littering the search engines. As to whether that'd result in more album sales I don't know... but it probably would.

Hmm, sounds like you are offering Surfdog your services as an SEO specialist?

Thank you Rick!! I just found more info about Google Music Search. I was right, Google has partnered with MySpace/iLike - so the results you get are kinda "skewed" given they don't link to iTunes or Amazon, as pointed out in the article. Apparently Google Music Search is supposed to turn up song previews even when you're searching for song lyrics, but according to this article it doesn't work all that well yet. I look forward to them getting this thing up to snuff, it's gonna be great. Might even be helpful for people wanting to know more about Robbie Wiliams. (just teasing, Rickabilly! ) Here's a discussion of Google Music Search. Some great points made there.

Ah cool! Thanks Sharky! Now I'm REALLY curious as to how they determine which results to show to who. In any case, good to know *some* folks are getting the new stuff in the results... it's dark and mysterious majick, I tell ya. Vinnie, I admit, I LOLed.
