Setzer Fans One Good Thing: Announcement Empty
PostSubject: Setzer Fans One Good Thing: Announcement   Setzer Fans One Good Thing: Announcement Icon_minitimeSat Aug 29, 2009 4:45 pm

I am cancelling the One Good Thing SSLVO auction/proceeds giveaway.

For those that are still interested, the guitar will be put on eBay sometime next week and the proceeds donated to the VH1 Save The Music program. Thank you for your participation.

Good Things don't come around often enough. When they do, I believe in celebrating them loudly and encouraging others to do the same! In May 2008, I was welcomed into the Brian Setzer fan community and since then, reconnecting with the music I love has caused my life to change significantly for the better (especially lately!) I blame all of this in no small part on this kick-ass group of fans. Brian Setzer attracts some of the best people on earth.

I've wished many times that I could spread my good fortune around - I think I've finally figured out a way to do it, and to involve all of you in it too. Ever since winning the Setzer Hot Rod in the Songs From Lonely Avenue cover contest, I've been trying to decide what to do with the SSLVO I already own. I don't need to keep it. Selling it just doesn't seem right. Giving it away would share the joy, but only with one person.

So, here's the deal:

My Gretsch Brian Setzer G6120SSLVO is now officially for auction to the highest bidder. Proceeds of the auction will go to a recipient or recipients to be chosen by members of the Hoodoo Voodoo Lounge Message Board. Somebody gets a fantastic guitar, somebody else gets a nice cash boost, and we ALL get some serious warm fuzzies. That's One Good Thing for everybody. 'Cause Brian Setzer fans rock!

Here's how it'll work:

1. Nominate someone to get the cash.
2. Vote on the nominees.
3. Bid on the guitar.
4. High bidder pays the chosen recipient and pays me for shipping.
5. I send the high bidder the guitar.
6. Everyone smiles.

Now for the rules and details:

NOMINATIONS: Nominations for the recipient/s of the funds are open now and will close at 6pm Pacific Time on September 10, 2009 (my birthday!) Put your nomination in the Nomination Thread - make it official by saying, "I nominate ____." Make your case for why you think the money should go to your nominee. I'd personally like to see the money go to a Brian Setzer fan or fans - preferably someone from the HDVDL - but if everyone decides to send it to a charity or something that's cool with me too. Nominate whomever you like, and as many nominees as you like, but:

1. You cannot nominate yourself.
2. If you decide to nominate an individual/family/private person you must get their permission first and they must accept the nomination in the nomination thread.
3. All nominations must be made publicly - do not message me privately with your nomination.

VOTING: I will open a public voting thread at 6pm on Sept 10 so you can vote on the nominees (again, do not message me privately with your vote). Make it official by saying, "I vote for ____." Voting closes at 6pm Pacific time on September 17, 2009 - whoever gets the most votes wins, if there is a tie the funds will be divided equally between the tied nominees. Each forum member only gets one vote. Make it count.

***Nominations and votes will only be counted from forum members who joined the Hoodoo Voodoo Lounge Message Board before August 29, 2009.***

To keep things totally transparent and to keep me completely out of the decision making process, I will not accept private nominations or votes, and I myself will not vote. You guys decide who gets the cash.

BIDDING: Bidding is open now and will close at 6pm Pacific Time on October 1, 2009. Anyone can bid on the guitar, but I ain't puttin' it on eBay or anything like that. Bids can be made in the Bidding Thread, via private message, or via email [ahazelwood at gmail dot com]. (Tell me if you want to keep your bid anonymous.) Remember, the higher the bid the better we as Brian Setzer fans are doing for one of our own or for a charity, so bid this baby up.

DONATIONS: If you don't want to bid on the guitar but just want to get in the spirit of One Good Thing and make a donation towards the chosen recipient, let me know and we can arrange that too.

DELIVERY: Funds from the high bidder must be delivered on or before October 13, 2009. (the release date of the new Brian Setzer Orchestra CD, Songs From Lonely Avenue). High bidder pays the sum total of their high bid directly to the chosen recipient. High bidder only pays directly to me the real cost of shipping the guitar from Santee, California, to their location. So for example, if the high bid is $3000 and shipping is $100, the high bidder pays $3000 to the chosen recipient and $100 to me. If there are multiple chosen recipients, the high bidder can pay them each directly, I can accept and divide the funds, or we can use an escrow service, or whatever everyone decides is best - we'll cross that bridge when we come to it. Once the chosen recipient has received their funds and I have received shipping costs, the guitar will be shipped to the high bidder. (And for those who want some assurance that I'm legit, you can check out my eBay feedback.)

THE SSLVO: Photos are here. It's a 2005 model, only lightly played by a total amateur, has some light guitar-stand scratches and some nicks and scratches on the back and headstock. Comes with the original bridge as well as the Aluminum Tru-Arc bridge that I have currently installed on it (not shown in the pics). I'm keepin' the case with the stickers on it but will ship the guitar to the high bidder in the case that my new Hot Rod came in. I will add more pics to the photoset as bidders request them.

Any questions? Ask 'em here. Spread the word - let every member of this forum know (especially the ones that have wandered off) that they can nominate a recipient. Tell your guitar-loving and Setzer-loving friends to email me [ahazelwood at gmail dot com] if they're interested in bidding on the guitar.

AND... start bidding and nominating, people!

3 questions:

Do we just bid by posting here?

Is there a minimum opening bid?

Is there a minimum reserve amount?

Patrick, I don't believe in regrets! And I already have one amazing Setzer Gretsch - that has an incredible story behind it - I don't need two. But I know there's plenty of somebody elses who could really use the money. Hey, maybe someone will nominate you and you can get your roof fixed Smile

Sharky, please bid in the bidding thread. (Or you can pm me or email me at ahazelwood at gmail dot com - make sure to tell me if you want your bid to be anonymous). No minimum, no reserve. Feel free to get the ball rolling, even if it's a low ball! Since bidding doesn't close till Oct 1, obviously there will be plenty of time for a crazy bidding war! Twisted Evil

Yeah that would be great!!
My wife says the same thing. "Why you got 10 guitars anyway?"
And I go: "How many shoes do you have?"
lol!
But I don't agree with you, you need two Gretsches, honest.

Here university it's almost free... I've paid no more than 600 Euro a year.

And my nominees are in no particular order of preference:

Jon, did you ask their permission before nominating them? And if you're serious, make it official by saying "I nominate ____" over in the Nomination Thread.

Hey Jon, a teacher friend of mine in North Carolina owed over $100,000 US Dollars to the Government for that same purpose.... Education Loan, or whatever it is called.
He went to Georgetown, in Washington DC.

We are lucky College is pretty much free in Spain.

Andi, It is nice to see someone as generous as you win the guitar from Brian. That is a really nice gesture and I hope that the bidding goes well. I think the VH1 program is really good choice.
