Do you think this 4xCD set is a winner...or would you drop song"s for others from his catalogue!?.

Legacy Recordings is proud to announce the release of Elvis 75 - Good Rockin' Tonight, the ultimate career-spanning collection of seminal recordings by Elvis Presley, in commemoration of the King of Rock & Roll's 75th birthday (January 8, 2010). Elvis 75 - Good Rockin' Tonight -- a four CD, 100 song collection -- will be available everywhere on Tuesday, December 8.

The first major Elvis Presley retrospective to cover the full spectrum of the artist's world-changing career, Elvis 75 - Good Rockin' Tonight runs from "My Happiness," the acetate Elvis himself paid nearly four dollars to record at the Memphis Recording Service on July 18, 1953, a year before signing with Sun Records, to "A Little Less Conversation (JXL Radio Remix Edit)," a posthumous #1 hit for Elvis in the UK, Australia and more than 20 other countries in 2002.

Offering fans an unprecedented range of essential material, Elvis 75 - Good Rockin' Tonight provides a generous selection of the electrifying earth-shattering primal rock & roll of young Elvis; the swinging good vibes of Elvis's soundtrack recordings; the heartfelt humility of his gospel performances and the intimacy of his ballads; the pure pop power and show biz magic of Elvis in Vegas; and a record-setting number of #1 and Top 10 international smashes.

The lavish Elvis 75 - Good Rockin' Tonight box set includes an 80-page booklet featuring many rare photographs and a new essay by musical and cultural critic Billy Altman (Rolling Stone, The New Yorker).

A single disc edition of Elvis 75 - Good Rockin' Tonight, featuring key tracks culled from the four-disc set, will be released on January 5, 2010 (the week of Elvis' birthday: January Cool.

Not in my wish list. I believe most of those songs are contained in previously releases, so I donīt see the need of investing my money in those cdīs over and over again. Unless they give you a sample of the Elvisīhair that is being auctioned this week from his army days:

I'd scratch "Judy" from Disc 2 and replace it with "Fame and Fortune".

I"d get rid of the last song on disc 4,and make it a set of recordings that came out when Presley was still on the go!.

All fan"s will have a different set list!.

I"d like one CD to have been a show...like pearl Harbour 1961!.

Or The last HAYRIDE show he did, that has been found in A1 Sound!.

I'd drop these songs:

My Happiness
One-Sided Love Affair
There's Always Me
Judy
I Need Somebody To Lean On
Adam And Evil
This Is My Heaven
A little less con
I'm Leavin'
T.r.o.u.b.l.e
Hurt

And replace with these:

Trying to get to you
Dixieland Rock
Fame and Fortune
No More
Hard Knocks
After Loving You
Power of my love
Cindy Cindy
Heart of Rome
Seperate Ways
Susan when she tried

What's good about the cds is the inclusion of
I washed my hands in muddy waters/ Tomorrow Is A Long Time/
Stranger in my own hometown / e
But although the balance of having more of the later years is on here,
there should be a few more live recordings.....oh my....where's the Wonder of You? Elvis's only 1970's number one in uk while he was alive?
The early years on here could have been thought through better too:
Where's 'Got a lot of livin' to do'?

I too have all the recordings, so this will only appeal to a new fan.
Might be good if there's some radio play to enlighten young people about the world's greatest recording artist!

Speaking of Elvis in the UK, I am in the midst of watching the six-part documentary entitled Monty Python: Almost the Truth. In the episode about The Holy Grail Elvis band member and friend Jerry Schilling discusses at some length how Monty Python and the Holy Grail was one of Elvis' favorite movies.

He relayed a story about how Elvis and his crew must have watched the film about 45 times, and that Elvis quoted it often. Elvis and his pals were playing football back home in Memphis and Elvis hurt one of his fingers. After Jerry expressed concern over what looked like a broken finger, Elvis laughed and, in his best British accent, said ""Tis but a flesh wound!"

I have been smiling all day picturing Elvis reciting entire sketches and passages from Monty Python's Flying Circus.

"Bring me a deep-friend peanut butter sandwich... and a shrubbery!"

The Elvis back catalogue is full of releases like this, the most abused back catalogue in the history of music.
