PostSubject: arrrgh...1st string jump out the bridge   arrrgh...1st string jump out the bridge Icon_minitimeSat Apr 25, 2009 2:37 am

Hi all,

i have a problem with my e string and my bridge (Duesenberg tunomatic bridge, it is fixed on the guitar)
during the the song while i was picking the 1st e string jumped out of the bridge. 3 times.

Evil or Very Mad Evil or Very Mad Evil or Very Mad Suspect affraid &%"§?.... Sad

What is the problem? my playing? (too hard), the bridge? The position of the bridge.
The space from string the neck is small (hey, i came from Rockguitars not from Jazz) Is this maybe a problem with a Gretsch Hollowbody guitar?

Is i t possible to file the hack deeper?

I have only this problem with my 6120. Not with my other Bigsby guitars.

This is my bridge:

http://www.rockinger.com/index.php?cat=WG082&lang=ENG&product=3645N%2F3645C%2F3645S%2F3645G

Tonite i have to play a very long gig but with my Rockband, so i will use my Tele and my Strat.
But after end of may and during the June i`ll play a few Rockabilly shows and i need a solution. Crying or Very sad
So if somebody have good ideas and share it with me, i`ll be happy for sure. Cool

Thanks

Brett

Hi Brett

Used to happen a lot to my 6120. I got a pro setup done, and that solved the prob for most of the time - I think he did file the notch a little deeper, but it was mainly to do with the neck angle.

It did still happen after that, but nowhere near as much. Mainly as I play hard i think.

I then got a Space Control bridge, and it solved the problem - end of story. Also, I didn't cut my hand when playing pick-hand-muting quite so much!

Hi Brett,

a space control bridge was also inslalled on Brian´s first ´59. Look the Gretsch definition page for the exact definition.

I suffer from that problem, too, mainly when popping the first string with a finger but sometimes also when I pick (too) hard. Only occurs with the first string. So I´d also be grateful for any hint apart from filing the notch or exchanging the bridge...

Thanks Folks for your help,

i`m glad i`m not the only one with this problem.
Maybe i must learn a different style of playing as well.

Cheers.

B,
its nothing more than you needing to have a qualified luthier set up the bridge correctly. If you purchased a bridge with "pre-grooved saddles" then you are asking for crap. It's best to have non grooved saddles and then have a luthier cut a proper slot for the correct string gauge you are using. after that you are gold brother...

Thx TV,

non grooved saddles means saddles must be fixed?

either way a saddle needs to be proper cut so that the string sits in/on the saddle
appropriately.
