I know today is a famous birthday...
But I just wanted to talk about this fantastic gig recorded 19 years ago at the club Citta (the same where Rockin' By Myself has been recorded too !) and the place of that gig in my memories.
In 1989, the Cats were back with Blast Off and tour all over Europe & the US. But then... Nothing for a while ! I mean, the next record, Let's Go Faster stayed "prisoner" in Japan & Australia and we were a few to start to worry... Then, the tape called Rock Tokyo arrived and it was a real joy and a real relief.
All this said, the gig was wild and fantastic and it helped to wait peacefully for Choo Choo Hot Fish.

I prefer Brian's haircut than Lee playing electric bass... Anyway, the gig was great !

Hey Choo Choo,
thanks for reminding us that wonderful day!

I must admit that I discovered Rock Tokyo at the age of 7, back in 1992 when my brother was watching it. at the very beginning, I mean, some moths before watching Rock Tokyo, my brother was picking out Stray Cat Strut and I didn't like it at firs but once I watched that wonderful show I fell for Stray Cats' music! I have many memories of that first time I saw the concert... and somehow, Stray Cats are not only part of my life in general but most special, of my childhood

The best band ever!!

That same night, that same year, I was seeing Jerry Lee Lewis, the Killer, performing live in my town, in the coolest venue we ever had here in Valencia.

It was actually one of my first rock´n´roll concerts ever. I was 14 at the time, and I´ll never forget Jerry Lee´s show, as I will never forget when I got to watch that Rock Tokyo video for first time either. WHAT A SHOW!!!!

That one, along with the one somewhere in Europe, the open-air one with thousands of wild fans going nuts, and Setzer wearing his orange pants with no shirt, really influenced me big time.

I watched it with a friend that was not into rockabilly at all, and both of us were jumping around the living room, singing the songs, going nuts. My friend loved "I Fought The Law" very much, cause it was the kind of style he liked the most. I remember that evening like if it was yesterday.

By the way.... that intro of the boys walking from the backstage towards the stage, while The Wanderer is in the background, and they walk by singing it, is FUCKIN COOL! I love that part a lot.

Those were the days, man....

Yeah they played that before taking to the stage at the '83 US Fest too. I bet they could make a cool version of the Wanderer themselves....

I am still a big fan of that gig. I've bought it on VHS and then on DVD.
Summertime Blues, Fishnet Stockings, Somethin' Else and Rock This Town are, in my opinion, among their best versions.

Awesome video.
I lent it to some div who told me he could copy videos...the result?Yep,he ruined it!
Took me years to replace it.
Always wondered what possessed Setzer to shave his hair like that.
