| Yeah....but not half as pretty. I've listen again to the clips....for the last time. I'm at a bit of a loss as to why people think it's a better album than The Dirty Boogie! But each to their own i guess. My only thought is if this album does well in the fan's eyes, there will be a follow up. Not to make money, but because i believe this is the kind of music Setzer really likes at the moment. I suppose i'll just have to wait for the exciting magic of Vazoom and Guitar Slinger to return. | |

| Steve, don't judge the album by mere clips, you gotta hear the whole thing! So your personal fave is Vazoom? | |

I second Dave's comment, Steve. I dug "Trouble Train" and "Lonely Avenue", but I was kinda disappointed by the clips from the rest of the album. But now, after playing the album several times a day for almost a week, I really, REALLY like it. The arrangements/charts are awesome, and you discover something new literally every time you hear a song. Yes, the album is different from Dirty Boogie and Vavoom, but it's different in a cool way. But better...? Dunno (yet, anyway... ). Its' at least in my personal top three of BSO albums. Anders

| "Elena" is one of the few tunes on the new album where a fragment of an audio clip probably does the song justice. "Malagueña" used to be my least favorite track on "Ignition," but I've grown to love it over the years. I expect I'll come around to "Elena" with time. Right now I'm picturing an Esteban infomercial when I hear it. Perhaps if it were in the middle of the album and segued into a fully-formed Spanish-influenced big band tune I might like it more. I'm thinking of the tours where Brian took Malagueña and went right into Brand New Cadillac with the BSO.
I just received the Japanese version of "Songs From Lonely Avenue" today, and while I think a reprise of "Lonely Avenue" works better as a closer for the album than "Elena," I have to say I'm a little disappointed that the bonus track seems to be merely the last 2:22 of track 5, right after the vibraphone solo, when the guitar solo begins. I had heard from one of our beloved French members that this was going to be an instrumental version of the song. That would have been amazing, to have 5 minutes of Brian soloing over that orchestration, or perhaps trading solos with the vibraphonist or other members of the orchestra.
Sure, it says "reprise" in the title, but it's not even the "banjo mix" we got on "When the Bells Don't Chime." The only difference I can hear is that the vibraphone has been potted down a bit so the song can fade in to showcase the guitar solo, which seems to be down slightly in the mix than the single/album track 5.
So if you want to have a copy of the Japanese version of "Songs From Lonely Avenue," or keep the one you bought in the shrink wrap, just fade in from the 2:58 mark of Lonely Avenue and voila! Bonus track!

Well BSO wise, i don't consider Brian has done anything after Vavoom.... i alway call in Vazoom My personal faves of the BSO are: Drive like Lightnin' If you can't rock me Americano House is Rockin' Hoodoo voodoo doll Rumble in Brighton This cat's on a hot tin roof Sleepwalk Jump, jive and wail These are Setzer's best tracks with the BSO.... Add a few from the Ultimate live cds... The rest are too jazzy, horny, saxey. and the rest aren't half as good.
