Great news!
But IMHO Kiss me deadly should have been nominated, THAT song is an instant classic, great composition , arrangement, singing, playing, everything! It's been my daily heavy rotation list ever since I got the cd.

Congrats on the nomination!
I hate to point out the obvious, but, guys....the nomination is for Best Rock Instrumental Performance, and that usually means no singing. And Mr. Surfer Goes Jazzin' fits that bill quite nicely.
Way to go, BSO!

List of other nominees in his category:

Warped Sister Booker T. Jones Track from: Potato Hole [ANTI]
Playing With Fire Brad Paisley Track from: Play [Arista Nashville]
Mr. Surfer Goes Jazzin' Brian Setzer Orchestra [Surfdog Records]
Now We Run Steve Vai [Favored Nations Entertainment]
Firstly - congratulations to Brian and the BSO for getting the nomination
For me the only serious competition he faces is from Mr Jeff Beck (I love guitar instrumentals and the others are all really good but just dont have that WOW factor for me)

From Shorefire:
Brian Setzer Garners Grammy Nod For "Mr. Surfer Goes Jazzin"
Brian Setzer claimed a Grammy nomination last night in the "Best Rock Instrumental" category for his finger-blistering slice of surf rock, "Mr. Surfer Goes Jazzin," from 'Songs From Lonely Avenue' (Surfdog).
Setzer is a 3-time Grammy winner, and this marks his tenth nomination overall.
'Songs From Lonely Avenue,' a 13-song suite inspired by classic Film Noir scores, has been a major critical success: Jim Fusilli at the Wall Street Journal declared that "all that's missing is the movie" while Guitar Player called it "a tour de force of everything we've come to love about Setzer. Badass rockabilly, jaw-dropping guitar licks, sophisticated big-band arrangements."
Setzer is currently on the road for his 29-date, seventh annual "Christmas Rocks! Extravaganza" tour.
The 52nd Annual Grammy Awards will be held Sunday January 31st in Los Angeles.
Tenth nomination? Wha? Everybody seems to say something different. In any case, I'd be bouncing off the walls with excitement if I could! I hope we get great news on Jan 31.

Shista! Jeff Beck won. It shouldn't even count, as Jeff Beck's been performing A Day In the Life for years, and even included a studio version on a George Martin tribute project several years ago.
Hopefully for Brian, it really is an honor to be nominated.

Thanks for the update. There's no reason to keep this godawful show and performance music on any longer.

Stray Cats were never nominated for a Grammy Award. They were up for an American Music Award in 1983 for "Best New Artist" but did not win. If memory serves, Men At Work won. You may remember that it was Men At Work's album, "Business As Usual" that kept "Built For Speed" out of the #1 spot on the Billboard Album charts prior to the release of "Thriller" which messed things up for months after.
Just the facts m'am, Tommy

See what happens when you're gone, T? I'm forced to make up stuff I imagined I read on the internet. It turns out Culture Club won the best new artist Grammy in 1983. The Grammys and the AMAs couldn't agree in that case, either.
Like Bobby Ewing in Dallas, I must have dreamed the whole thing!

I was fumblin through old videos trying to find the sparkleject tone from Brian Rig and I ran across this old session with the BSO. Totally cool set design (colors, suits, etc) and Brian Is just electric.. you can feel he is preachin his passion, he's alive and hungry.. This sh#t wins grammies and what I mean by that is, you have this grammy good ol boys protocol and their plug n play pop crap every year..BUT once in a while some one pushes and fights n scrapes their way to the top FOR REAL via hard work, talent and timing.
Kings of Leon are a perfect example of that this year.. They won because of sheer grit, IMO. Brian STILL has it in him, here is proof:
ps. I am LOOKING for a really good copy of this concert footage

fantastic show, i got this one on a dvd, but quality is like youtube, anyway, he is singing, he is playing all at the same time and look at 1:27 how he use the PU switch... playing, click, singing again...awesome

I think the Grammy nods are cool for Brian. From reading his responses to the nomination, I think it validates what he is doing. Sure, it must be very cool to win, but with all the music coming out , to be selected by your peers would be an amazing feeling.
