Sunglasses?

Very Happy I joke of course.

I believe that coated strings like Elixir's often don't sound as bright. They do cost more, but I am told that they last longer, so it's all the same in the long run. I'm not sure that they are the best idea for gigging, but if you're just a bedroom/garage/home player, then it might be the way to go.

Another thought would be dropping down to a heavier gauge string. It'll hurt the fingers until you get used to it, but it may help.

Another thought may be trying a different make of string. I've used, and have always used for some reason, D'addario strings, just as a matter of habit. Different makes of string sound different (Fender strings just didn't suit my ears) so you could get a few different makes for your next few changes and see how they work for you.

I don't mean this next bit to be flippant, either, so please don't think I'm being patronising... you could tweak the EQ on your amp? I know some people are very definite about where they want their knobs pointing, but they are there to tweak the sound after all.

Hope that something here may help, and I'm sure someone will have better ideas than me!

JB

I use D`addario as well. And very often now Elixir. For my ears the same sound like D`addario but they live in fact more than 3 times longer.

About your trebleproblem, i guess this might be not only a string problem.
But if you think so try the jazz Strings

Had the same problem, but found the right solution.
I use Flatwounds!
My Faves are Thomastik from the Jazz Swing Series in 0.11
http://www.thomann.de/gb/thomastik_js111_jazzsaiten_flatwound.htm
They've got exactly the tone I want

Or what I've recently tried:
Thomastik Jazz Bebop
http://www.thomann.de/gb/thomastik_js111_jazzsaiten_flatwound.htm

They're no Flatwounds, and sound a bit brighter, not bad but the other ones sound better for my ears.
