Hi, just heard that bootleg for the first time these days. Its really an awesome quality - like the live in Europe 2004 recordings. And you simply can feel that raw rockin power that band stills has. It just got that "imperfectly perfect" fibe and has some rare songs on it also.

I must of got the wrong recording, as mine sounds like a crummy direct board recording. Very thin and noisy. I've got a direct board recording from RHCP and other than Keidis terrible out of tune voice, all the instruments are strong...

I wonder if I have a copy of a copy of a copy

who's got the goods?

Ok, itīs not perfect.
itīs good for non-official recording. In my car it sounds good, but bass needs to turn up.

Imho much better than this crappy BSO recording from Boston or these Amsterdam concert from last year...

I bought a copy on ebay just after the event and it was unlistenable - decent sleeve though - will be putting my new version in it now!

This "Hellride 2003" is the best recording available, and the complete show.

Not to add to the confusion, but hopefully this might clear some things up for collectors:

There are 3 other recordings of this same show that I have found, but they are all
audience-recordings and vary in quality.

Of these three, one was bootlegged twice under the name
"1978 Rockabilly Kings 2003" and also as "Fullerton CA 7/5/03".
Note that this recording (under both titles) does NOT contain the 4 encore songs
and it runs 78 mins. If anybody has this in their collection, then it is not the same
as the soundboard recording "Hellride 2003".

Hey,
specially for Brett... despite this bootleg sounds pretty cool, sometimes I prefer an audience recording. The reason is that despite the sound quality, it's always gret to have the audience noise. In my case, I feel more as if I had been witnessing the show somehow, whereas a soundboard recording, makes you feel different, more like a live studio recording, not being a "proper" show.

I've got a SBD recording of the Stray Cats show in Nantes 2008 and it's wonderful, but I still miss that feeling I've been telling you before.

Oh, i know what you mean and i agrree.
But the Boston BSO show isnīt very good. To much treble and mids, guitar much too loud and all together sounds crappy. This is a problem with such a big band.
A Trio bootleg is easier.

But i like this Hootenanny show. You can hear how they find together song by song.
Built for speed is a killer.

Just played this for first time since I downloaded it - has now become my favourite cats live album. Sound quality is excellent - could be a commercially available CD - and the band really sound driven - highly recommended to anyone who hasn't downloaded it yet.
