Hey everybody!

So the Super Bowl is coming up this Sunday - arguably the most ridiculously over-hyped, money-sucking and yet, at the same time, incredibly awesome event in the United States. It's a celebration, and along with all the million-dollar-per-second TV ads, food, and of course, football, there is a significant and tragically neglected element of entertainment known as the HALFTIME SHOW.

This year, it's Madonna (and friends).

Last year, it was somebody I can't remember (just looked it up - Black Eyed Peas) - Christina Aguilera and the no good, very bad, terribly awful butchering of the anthem.

In 2010, The Who performed at halftime. I love The Who, but good ol' Roger Daltrey was 65 years old. Rock and roll until you die, right?

After I heard on the radio that Madonna was going to be this year's halftime 'entertainment'... I almost drove my truck right off the road into a ravine. But, it got me thinking - what if Brian Setzer was at the Super Bowl?

It would be awesome, that's what. Get the whole big band up there, horns and all. It would be the best Super Bowl halftime in history.

So, I don't know how this works, exactly... I'm sure you need to be invited, or something. But, I envision a 2013 Super Bowl with Brian and the BSO stealing the show.

How 'bout it?

That would be the longest of long shots, I'm afraid. I would be more excited about the events that would have to lead up to Brian even being considered for part of the Super Bowl:

New album making a splash on the charts
Brian garnering lots of media attention for said album
Brian finally among the list of Rock Hall of Fame Inductees
Brian possibly landing the music for the Football telecasts on one of the broadcast networks (he was on Monday Night Football a few years back)
This network would have to be the one broadcasting the Super Bowl
It wouldn't hurt for the Vikings to have a new indoor stadium and have Minneapolis host the Super Bowl (but then they'd probably have Prince back)

Brian films an epic mini-movie commercial for Pepsi to air during the Super Bowl where he dresses provocatively and dances around a crucifux or grabs his crotch... oh wait. That's Madonna or Michael Jackson.

I don't know what it will take. They made McCartney, The Who, and the Rolling Stones wait until they turned 60+ to invite them.

There is a lot of stuff going on prior to the game - he's more likely to be included as a part of that programming.

As much as I'd enjoy watching him at the Super Bowl, I wouldn't really want him to have to deal with the massive negativity in the Twittersphere where every tool full of mock outrage takes to the web to trash any act performing at the game. Every artist, no matter who they are, takes a lot of abuse from sports talk, morning radio personalities, television, blogs, etc. who either trash the performance, the performers' right to be there, or who they would have rather seen instead. The Super Bowl is a white hot spotlight, and Brian would most likely have a leopard-print bullseye on his back if he were the lead performer on the halftime show.

But to even be considered, he has to have a high-quality new album release attaining massive success. I'm all for that.

Ya know, Rick, you're probably right. The Super Bowl just ain't hip enough, would really cramp Brian's style.

I tend to agree that it's way too mainstream and disgusting to really call in any class act, especially not now, after the run of ugliness that's been happening at the Super Bowl for the past few years.

I guess it was just wishful thinking on my part. I mean, we all know Setzer could rock the foundation to pieces at any Super Bowl stadium - even though the halftime show is usually reserved for some kind of forced, over-produced pop nonsense. However, no matter how old some of these rockers get, I will rock right along with them. The Who - old, but still rocks. AC/DC? Are you kidding me? Rocks.

The Stones. Mick and Keef! Some of the oldest guys in the biz - still rockin'.

So, here's to Setzer! May you enjoy all the rest of your Super Bowl Sundays at home, with a tall, cool Premo!

the Go Go Godzilla animation would be a good Segway into a full blown Setzerbilly, BSO, 'Cats halftime Extravaganza. Heck just drop the football part and create a 'BillyPalooza show with vintage hotrods and sickles, musical support from Reverend horton Heat, Imelda May Mike Ness....Sponsers Crown Royal, Pabst and free Layrite for everyone!!!!!!

Now you're talkin'! Even if that didn't make the Super Bowl, there are a few channels that offer alternative programming before the game and even during halftime. There's the Puppy Bowl, where pups nudge a small football around a field, there's alternate "chick programming" all around the dial... call it the Estrogen Bowl or whatever. The extravaganza kbilly proposed would be fantastic on a channel like Palladia, MTV2, VH-1 Classic, Fuse, or even at the Big Game itself.

Call it the 'Billy Bowl!

it would have to be the straycats.. most folks remember or recognize that but not brians name alone. It'd be killer, but i doubt lee would do it because the instruments are taped and only the singing is live. Jim and Lee would just be acting.not much fun for them
