| Swansea, I totally agree with you. Even for a collector like me, all the interest in the latest projects is somehow lost, I don't like all these releases in 100 different formats nor the live albums with bringing almost anything new at all...
Even if it was easy to find the forum, I think we all used to post more in the past. I don't know, it feels awkward that for a New Year's Greeting (thanks Pony!), 11 days had to go by for somebody to post....
I also believe, we used to have people posting pictures from the shows, vintage shots, talking about this and that...
Today, we only get people talking if there's a new album or a tour coming up. Right after that... nothing.
I feel the same way with my blog: truth is that I have run out of material, hell, it's been almost 3 years posting 2-3 times a week, sometimes even more... but I expected more participation. I am not saying that everybody has to write, but, I attempted to create a fans section, only 5-6 friends wrote... I was hoping for people to send some vintage pictures, or even shots from not long ago... nothing at all, really.
What has heppened to us all?? WHERE ON EARTH ARE WE???

On facebook, I guess... But although there are over 90000 "likes" on Brian Setzer's facebook page, nothing happens there either. The Lounge used to be kind-of a hangout for a bunch of friends (who didn't necessarily know each other) discussing at least ONE interest they had in common (plus a whole lot of other random, funny stuff). But if that ONE thing was, say, Brian Setzer during the Dirty Boogie/Vavooom/Ignition days ... well, there's no wonder why nobody's here anymore... I believe (read: I'm pretty damn sure) I don't only speak for myself when I wish Brian would make a decent follow-up to Ignition. I'm not asking for another Stray Cats reunion or farewell tour or whatever. But a kick-ass rockabilly record with the best trio I ever saw live; Brian Setzer, Mark Winchester and Bernie Dresel. I'm pretty sure they'd get a kick out of it themselves, too!

Kevin McKendree really added something with his piano playing and the twin Bass attack was pretty cool IMHO. Either way, I'd follow anything new or old from Brian. At the moment he's doing what is relevant to him and you can't blame him for that. I'm sure when he wants to do an all new release, he will. But, as per usual, whatever he does I want a DVD

Sorry but I do not agree - a quick Google search on "Brian Setzer fans" brings this site up in third place. That is hardly hard to find - sorry You are right. One thing may be if Brians homepage was better and more fun? And that Ignition II is a great idea.

| There is no artist in the whole wide universum who brings out a fantastic masterpiece every single year. Setzer has made musical history with the Stray Cats and later with BSO. This is more than many other good artists ever done. Between those highlights he always tried find new ways to rock (Knife, Wolfgang, Loneley Av., Instrumental)) This might not everybodies cup of tea but it`s even more than many other artist ever have done. A lot of musicans trying to repeat the same old thing over years and years.
Because of this variety i like Brian Setzer and all his Bands and projects. I`m pretty sure sometimes his managment would think he should do from time to time the safe old thing. He could make more money.
And finally his guitar sounds better than ever.
Happy new year and healthiness to all.

Setzer has made musical history with the Stray Cats and later with BSO. This is more than many other good artists ever done. That's true. We, the fans, are spoiled that way. I'll buy anything he releases, although I've been giving his two or three latest albums less "air time" than the older ones. And I suspect many of the rockabilly fans aren't that much into his other stuff, thus not buying every album. I can understand that Brian wants to move on and not make the same album over and over, and that he probably thinks "Ignition II" would be a step backwards. But he'd probably sell to those who haven't bought the coupla previous ones - after all, rockabilly is a genre where the physical album (be it vinyl or CD) still is kinda important...

| It's nice that we are finally discussing as we did in the past, hehehe.
I agree with all of you: it's nice to see how Brian has been through different stages, doing different things and styles, whether we liked them more or less or not at all. Truth is that one cannot release a perfect album every year or every other year. Maybe Brian's peak composing days are over and what's left to him is touring and bring back the old glory days.
I always wonder why he's never played any songs from The Knife or Live Nude Guitars apart from their correspondant tours or some of the old BSO songs like Lady Luck, Ball & Chain, Buzz Buzz... just to name a few... or from 13 or Nitro Burning...
Those might not be his best albums but leaving those songs aside, to me, it's like saying those albums were just made to have an excuse to go on tour, play them and that's it. What's the point in doing "Red Hot & Live" if only 2 songs from 13 are included and 20 minutes left on the CD?? That's what I would think...
What has happened to other fantastic songs like "When The Bells..." or "Don't Trust A Woman" ??
It would be fantastic to see Brian doing a Rockin' By Myself Tour.... |

I remember when I saw the 68 CBS in Madrid (hell, 11 years ago!) and he changed the tune of the last chorus, just fantastic!! |

| For whatever reason, I don't post as much anywhere as I used to. I tend to not post unless I feel I have something of value to contribute to the discussion/thread. I tend to also follow SJP's stated model of only chatting whenever there is an album/tour on the calendar. The recent tours have not visited my neck of the woods, so I haven't written about anything much here since Instrumental was released. Thanks for getting us talking again SJP! | |

Now, if you could choose something for Brian to do, in what kind of project would you like to embank him?? |

| All of these comments and opinions here are very valid. Here are some of my frank, random thoughts. The official site stoppped being interesting years ago after Tommy M parted ways from it. By the way, I always wondered what the full story with them was. Maybe Tommy was too intrusive. Anyway, the last Live from the Planet album unfortunatley to me was kind of tired sounding, especially in the vocals. The late 90's Dirty B, 68 CBS was the best Setzer era ever--lightning in a bottle--will never be topped. I think a Mark and Bernie reunion would ROCK! The Stray Cats? I think they've done all that they can do. Also, I stll do check this board regularly. As far as the decline in posts from everyone? Maybe we've all said all there is to say about BS. | |

| Slim Jim Phantom is one thing, and Bernie Dresel is another...
They all have their styles: SJP was very innovative as he plays standing up and back in the day, I think it was very very original. Also, his technique is not bad and the fills he used to play were fantastic. To me, his best period was 1988-1990. The, he went waaaay too agressive, but it's my opinion. However, he has that something for the Stray Cats songs that Bernie lacks... I don't like Bernie playing Stray Cat Strut or Runaway Boys or Gene & Eddie.
But Bernie is a top class drummer... Slim Jim Phantom, despite being my fav Stray Cat and I do really admire him, is not even closer. He could have NEVER EVER been part of one song by Brian after the Stray Cats... well, he's been on Really Rockabilly which is one of those songs I hate Brian doing... I have 2 gutiar riffs and voila, a new song, even if it's a copy or compilation of SC guitar licks...
Slim Jim is what it is, and Bernie is what it is too... but they are not even closer...
In favour of Slim Jim, I must say that I love his work in the studio much more than what he does live... live, he makes plenty of mistakes, loses the tempo and track of the right beat.... just check "My Baby Left Me" on Rumble In Brixton... at the end, he does some kind of fills, trying to go along with Brian's solo... he's completely lost the beat, and when Brian comes back, he needs a bit to get back to the right beat....
When touring with Jerry Lee Lewis, it was the same.... Slim Jim was so much on his own stuff that the band kind of "stopped" to follow Jim... even Jerry Lee was trying to get him in the right beat... no way he did.... XD
Not saying, again, that I don't like Slim Jim... on the contrary, but when it comes to drumming, his days are very much over.
Same happened with Tony Pia, he just didn't fit for Brian... Daniel Glass has something different.... |

| I like the job Slim Jim is doing with Darrel, Head Cat, Phantom Rocker Slick, etc... but when it comes to live shows, I think he was better in the past. However, it's all a matter of tastes.
Slim Jim in a big band??? Impossible!!! He's not cut out for that...

My Baby left Me: he doesn't know where to get back!!!!! Jon, I'm pretty sure that Swansea doesn't play drums. He doesn't know what to listen for. He probably thinks Lars Ulrich is a great metal drummer too... I'm kidding, Swansea. But I disagree with you. I agree with Jon. I also think Jim was a great drummer on the first three (or maybe five) Stray Cats albums. But after I saw him live in '92, I started noticing what a lousy time keeper he was. As for technique, try listening to Bernie's solo on Rock This Town. He's right up there alongside Gene Krupa and Buddy Rich, seriously! Jim couldn't play that stuff if he had ten arms, eight legs and a built-in click track....
