for same basic sound try:

--------5--
--------5--
--------4--
--------4-
--------0-
--------x

ie '0' is open 'A' string
x = don't play

you lose the '3rd' of the chord though (C#)

----12--
----12--
----11--
----11--
----11--
----0---

this is e6/9 used at end of a few r'n'r tunes.

Here is a good link for everybody who wants to know how to play a special Chord.
Although the page is in german the Chordfinder is in english, and very easy to handle.
You can also download it, just press on the bold Print "hier" in the Text on the right.
The best thing about this program is, that it shows you almost every Version of a Chord.

Here's another great Chord/Scales site:

Chordbook

The site actually plays the chords with either an electric guitar sound or an acoustic guitar sound. You can even tune your guitar. It's a brilliant learning source.

How are ye fretting the chord (which fingers on which notes)? You should have the 4th fret notes barred with your first finger and then use your 3rd finger to barre the 5th fret notes. If you can't manage this right now, you could experiment with other fingerings. One thing to keep in mind, beginners tend to put too much hand pressure in fretting notes on the guitar. You want just enough to make the notes ring, yet light enough to facilitate changing shapes/sliding shapes, etc.
