Paul Cochrane's Timmy booser/overdrive that is!

I'll finally get to see what all the hubub is about! AND compare it to the other excellent "flat EQ boost/drive" I have, the Barber LTD SR.

Congratulations rendeer sunny

You have done really well to find a brand new one without paying the over-inflated prices being charged both on e-bay and The Gear Page - I have resisted that temptation so far (only just mind you Shocked

I have plumped for being on the waiting list for one direct from Paul C - however it will become redundant if TV's "Nocturne" pedal becomes available in the meantime bounce

It will be cool to hear how the Timmy goes in a head-to-head against the Barber Cool

cheers

Good to hear the Timmy is on the way, let me know If I can help with the settings!
btw J... the Nocturn is being mapped out as we speak. We'll begin a prototype sometime after the holidays. It looks like the entire box will be hardwired inside using
NOS carbon comp resistors and opamps like the original. Still trying to decide if the box should have variable input gain settings like the RE-301 or just use setzers settings as static.

Thats very cool - thanks for the update TV Cool

If it was up to me I would have the box with a variable input gain but have the controls either notched or marked for the Setzer settings Cool bounce

cheers

Definitely!

I'd love to hear where you have the gain/vols set... how much of a boost do you need to approximate the 301 preamp?

Same goes for EQ... does the 301 add any EQ curve at all, or is it pretty much flat?

Oh... and the internal trimmer, leave to stock, or change it (stock is symmetrical clipping, can be changed to assymeterical).

in the pict you can see the marks I have for stage settings on my TIM.. the only time
I switch the symmetrical clipping in (pull pot on back, instead of timmy's internal switchs) is when I use my strat, the squish is good for a plank guitar only IMO.

hey ya.. one thing about Timmy's vs TIM.. for some strange reason.. I dont know if
its the proximity of components spaced differently in the boxes or what, but the controls
on the Timmy are slightly different than the TIM as far as the volume and gain go.
On my Timmy I had to place the gain control way back at like 11oclock and the vol control at 1oclock to get it to sound exactly like the TIM. If you set your Timmy like my
TIM, you might find it too Rev Horton Heat for
your taste... Smile I reaaaally love Jim Heath's guitar sound and talent but I know thats
not what you were asking about... Smile

ITS A PSYCHOBILLY FREAK OUT!!!

I've had my Timmy since november, and it's been a great addition to the board. It just makes everything bigger and puts some punch to my TopHat, and it plays nice with my other drives and makes them perform better. So for me, it's a booster, light drive, and eq.

I was on Paul C's list for both the Tim and Timmy, but I opted for just the timmy for now.
