With the impending new release of 12 all-original tunes, I got to thinking of some of Le Setz' lyrics. Clever, evocative, silly, sad, fun.... the guy can write 'em all, and no doubt the new record will deliver! So to date, what are some of your favorite Setzer-penned lyrics?

I love the phrase, "I'm Good to Boogie," and it's long been a part of my daily vocabulary to mean "I'm ready to go." Or when heading out the door - "are you good to boogie?"

Lately I get a grin anytime I hear, "don't cut your hair, whatever you do, 'cause I need it to run my fingers through." Smile

And for imagery I always love Lust N Love - "The wind is blowin' beer cans down this cold, deserted street. I feel as empty as those beer cans, rollin' past my feet. I can hear Chicago blues from an out of tune guitar, and a 1939 neon sign is buzzin' above the bar." Absolutely brilliant.

Can't wait to hear the Songs From Lonely Avenue!!

Fine topic Andi. First, I'd like to say that I am with you for your three examples taken in Lust N Love, Gettin' In The Mood and Smokin' N Burnin'. For this last one, one of my fav' Brian's tune, I just would prefer "I'm fire wood in your fire place baby, I'm hissin' & poppin', and if you see me with some other women, I'm only window shoppin'"
Other lyrics I like are from
-"Baby Don't Drag Me Down" : your daddy don't like and, girl, that suits me fine...
-"Hell Bent" : catch me now if you got the nerve... (really like this one)
-"My Baby Only Cares For Me" : she doesn't give second chances, hey lover boy, you ain't got nothing she needs...

Many others to come probably...

Hello back, folks!!
It´s been a while since I last posted in here, but now that I am back in Spain, I have more time to reply and get internet acces.

Very interesting topic.... so here are my fav lines:

I canny pick any particular line from "She Thinks I'm Trash" nor from "You Don't Believe Me", they are soooooo good!
But I also love the first verse to "The Man With The Magic Touch" - I use this verse to motivate myself from time to time and "Girl that suits me fine"

plagiat with stupid lyric by setzer

Well it's friday night about nine o'clock
Oh baby baby it's time to rock
Gonna comb my hair put on my dancing shoes
Only one thing can kill my blues
Everybody needs rock and roll
Everybody needs rock and roll
Better than diamonds better than gold
Everybody needs rock and roll
You might drive a big cadillac
Or maybe a pick up truck
You might be a millionaire
You might depend on your luck
Everybody needs rock and roll
Better than diamonds better than gold
Everybody needs rock and roll
I try to tell you baby I know best
Rock and roll has past the test
So everybody around the world
Grab your guitar grab your girl
Cause
Everybody needs rock and roll
Everybody needs rock and roll
Better than diamonds better than gold
Everybody needs rock and roll
And you might live on a mountain top
Or maybe out by the sea
You might live in a great big house
You might live up in a tree
Everybody needs rock and roll
Everybody needs rock and roll
Everybody needs rock and roll
Everybody needs rock and roll
Better than diamonds better than gold
Everybody needs rock and roll It's better than diamonds better than gold
Everybody needs rock and roll
I'm gonna tell you baby
Everybody needs rock and roll
Better than diamonds better than gold
Everybody needs rock and roll

I think my favorite Setzer lyrics are from "Switchblade 327".

...but someone had cut both his fuel lines, and the 32 burst into flames..... great!

I won't Stand In Your Way is probably one of the best songs.... and to me, my favourite Setzer song ever both lyrically and musically. No other song is as good as this one... but just for me

Cool post idea!

I have always loved the lyrics to Switchblade 327 from the Dirty Boogie album. Not as romantic as I won't Stand in Your Way, but equally poetic and still rockin'. This creates strong but cool images n your mind:

Switchblade 327
Lit cigarette in his hand
Steel-toed boots on the accelerator
Oil leakin' outta the pan.
Switchblade, three 2-barrels
Gettin' there as fast as he can
All juiced up like a hot carburetor
Spittin' gas onto the fan
Blacktop burnout, Saturday night
Try and catch him if you can
Switchblade 327
Switchblade, seven come eleven
Switchblade, he's all right
When he get's drunk he fights all night
Switchblade 327
Pullin' way ahead of the pack
Chop top deuce, Saturday night
Flames shootin' outta the back
Switchblade, don't cut him off
He won't cut you no slack
He'll cut you to ribbons if you come to town
He'll carve out his name in your back
Blacktop burnout, Saturday night
Try and catch him if you can
Switchblade 327
Switchblade, seven come eleven
Switchblade, he's all right
When he get's drunk he fights all night
Switchblade 327
Someone was calling his name
All he could hear was his engine
And the sound of the pouring down rain
Switchblade 327
Ran 125 down the lane
But someone cut both his fuel lines
And the '32 burst into flames
Blacktop burnout, Saturday night
Try and catch him if you can
Switchblade 327
Switchblade, seven come eleven
Switchblade, he's all right
When he get's drunk he fights all night

Jeanie, Jeanie, Jeanie lol!

but my favourite lyrics are probably from "bring it back again"
They're nothing special, but together with the music they create a great atmosphere!
