| I have been playing the board game Candy Land my whole life. Well, OK, there was quite a layoff between the ages of 7 and 33, but still. All this time, I thought you had to land on the blue space right before Home Sweet Home to win the game. Then the cards would run out while I was trying to draw a blue one, so we'd reshuffle, and then I'd end up picking the candy cane or gumdrop, and have to go back practically to the start. This is how I've been playing the game forever! About a week ago, I played with my very insistent 4-year-old daughter. After the third time through the deck, I just couldn't go on, so I forfeited. Tonight we're playing again, but before we started, I actually read the rules. After the line about landing on blue by exact count, it clearly says, "or by drawing a color card that will take you beyond the last blue space." I can't believe I never read the rules before. What a doofus! I realize this post sounds like the ravings of a lunatic, but if you still have small children in your house, maybe you can appreciate the emotional place I'm in right now! | |

| Yep...I know how you feel. We're in the middle of a very competitive game of Monopoly, and I get sent to jail. Well, I have a get out of jail free card, and I thought I had to wait and lose a turn in order to play the card and get out of jail. Turns out, according to my 9 year old (and the rules) that I can play the card and have my turn on the next go around. All these years I've been waiting and skipping a turn...only to be corrected by a 9 year old and a set of rules. I wonder what else I could learn by reading the rules of the game first? Congrats on your Candy Land epiphany! Is it family game night yet? hrg | |
