Ghost Radio Empty
PostSubject: Ghost Radio   Ghost Radio Icon_minitimeWed Sep 10, 2008 12:05 pm

In response to WebElvis' request, I've dug up an old chord chart for Ghost Radio, a cool song co-written by the late, great Joe Strummer. For reference I'm also including a video clip of the song performed live at the Montreal Jazz Fest. It's also available on the One Rockin' Night DVD in better resolution.

Ghost Radio

Intro.

Tremolo Pick/Slide from E (12th fret) down the 6th string to open E.

Then play Riff 1 (a rhythmic E blues riff with single notes in open position).

Riff 1

(E-E-G-E-Bb-A-G-E-Bb-A-G-E-Bb-A-G-E-E-G-Bb-A-G-E-Bb-A-G-E)

Follow with E7#9 (or similar E7-type chord)

Verses (1 & 2)

E5-G(single note) then A5-C(single note) then B5-D(single note)

The rhythm here is a boogie pattern that gets repeated during each verse.
In other words, the E figure gets played four times, and the A and B figures get played two times each.
You then play the entire figures (E-A-B) again once (a total of two times for each verse).
Then, add in the syncopated chords of:

C7#9-B7#9(or D7#9 I forget which)

Chorus (1 & 2)

Em-D-A-G-Cadd9-D-Em-Em-D-A-G-C-D-B7#9

The chorus is a combination of strumming/arpeggiating chords. At the B7#9 chord a descending chromatic single note line resolving to the low E gets played.
This signals a return to Riff 1 and the E7#9 chord.

Repeat the Verse and Chorus for the 2nd time with gtr. fills/alterations.

Bridge 1

At the end of the 2nd chorus play Riff 1 but instead of ending on E7#9 transpose Riff 1 up a half step to the key of Fm.

Verse (3)

Play Verse line up a half-step in the key of Fm.

Chorus (3)

Play Chorus line up a half-step in the key of Fm. This necessitates playing some barre-type chords instead of the open ones from the 1st two choruses. Feel free to experiment here.

Solo

The solo has two eight bar sections. The first section is in Fm. Most of the lines are Fm pentatonic/blues rockabilly lines in first position.
The second section modulates to F#m and is played higher up the fretboard at the 14th position.

Verse (4)

Play the Verse line up a whole step in the key of F#m.

Chorus (4)

Play the Chorus line up a whole step in the key of F#m. Repeat the entire chorus again in F#m.

Outro.

Play Riff 1 up a whole step in the key of F#m.

End on F7#9 chord.

Hope that helps ye out. Feel free to post any comments, corrections, etc.
