Two Questions - Part 2 - Dano Reel Echo Empty
PostSubject: Two Questions - Part 2 - Dano Reel Echo   Two Questions - Part 2 - Dano Reel Echo Icon_minitimeWed Jul 14, 2010 8:27 am

I picked up a Danelectro Reel Echo (Tape echo simulator) pedal awhile back. I thought that it was cool, and it sure is pretty. However, from the get-go, I noticed that it seemed to darken up the sound of my guitar. It was what i had though, so i used it, and liked it. Now that i'm getting better equipment, guitars, amps and such, i'm worried about the effect that it might be having on the tone that I SHOULD be getting.

Does anyone have any experience with these? I know that they're generally well-regarded, but wondering if there's a better....dare i say, more simple pedal out there. I mainly use it for slapback, but like the occasional Sleepwalk echo.

Hey Mark -

I had one of those for a while. While I liked the slapback, it did not like the noise of the pedal. I never noticed it darkening my sound that much.

I have tried the Boss Space Echo Re-20 (sold it), the Danelectro DE-1 (decent, but sold it) the Reel Echo (see above...sold it) and currently have the MXR Carbon Copy which I have yet to find a negative about (give me time as I raved about the RE-20 at first).

The MXR is one of those pedals i was looking at...compact and simple. I was talking to Billy Zoom, he says he likes them as long as the "Idiot switches are off" Smile I'm going to play around this weekend, since i finally get to bring my Nocturne home and set it up.

I did like the RE-20, but found I only used it for slap-back. I figured I would sell it to someone who would utilize the features more. I prefer to keep it simple with my pedals. 90% of the time I use the Nocturne and the MXR with nothing else! Pure Sun Records heaven!

I played at our corporate party in April and a co-worker comes up during a break and says "How do you get that 50"s sound?" I showed him my simple set-up....two little boxes (ok, three if you count the tuner).

Nice! I'm going to sit down and monkey about with the Dano this weekend, see what i can do with it. Maybe its' just the fun of getting something new, but those MXR boxes have got me thinking.....
