There is a quote somewhere. maybe from Billy Zoom or Rich Modica ( sorry cant quite remember) regarding Brian Setzers rig sounding like " ..a marshall jcm45 on fat ass steroids.." Just wondered if anyone out there has tried their gretsch through a Marshall rig? ..just curious

Hi,
yes i did it. I played for many years a JCM DSL Top with 4x12 Cab. It sounds not bad with a Gretsch, but for the real deal clean sound i prefer Fender. At HVL is Video around by a guy from UK who shows his 6120 Brian Setzer Tribute guitar. He`s playing through a Marshall rack. Even Hardrock Tunes. Sounds great.

For a while I played through a couple Tophat amps called the Emplex 50 and the Emplex 40. Both are mixed variants with dual channels (JTM45 through JCM800).
The JTM45 is a take off of a vintage bassman (tweed) and when turned up with a gretsch can sounds pretty awesome. although nots so rockabilly. I still love the sound of my SSU through the Mesa Boogie Tremoverb I had, that is one mean combo.
