Tavo and the Flat Black Thrillers new Xmas song & Album on itunes now

This last summer I spent a week in nashville and recorded a new album, but
"the Flat Black Thrillers" on this album are all serious nashville musicians.
Geoff Firebaugh (bigbassape) on the king double bass, his playing
is astounding and really helped me bring "sweet dreams are made of this" alive.
Grant Johnson was on the b-bender tele and my engineer and old band mate Jeremy Michael from the 90s played his vintage 50s ludwig kit on the album.

their collaborations turned this album into a honky-tonk'abilly recording
and the engineer was able to use ribbon mics and a tube mic pre to get a real warm
intimate RCA studios feel but still modern in its sonic footprint.

.. this album is a final chapter for a tough season in my life and the songs are all metaphoric for some serious hurt I needed to move forward in. I'm nothin much more than a blues singer but I gotta say I've never poured my heart into anything like this before .

the Xmas song is the last track on the album "God Rest Ye Merry Gentleman" and 10 seconds after it finishes is a cash style poem I penned about the whole ghostly nature of my times in
nashville. I hope you will give it spin as its avail on itunes now as a download. its called the SURRENDER AT CARTERS GLEN. My 'lil wife is the topless pinup in it (her guitar keeps it "wholesome")

Surrender at Carters Glen was our dinner music last night - fantastic job on the new release!

+1. Definitely gettin' that "Great Gretsch Sound!" And for anybody that thinks you REALLY need a tape echo, or even a tape sim echo... give a listen. That DM-2 (along with the Atomic Brain & Blondeshell) is KICKIN' ASS!

Holy cow, I think I forgot to get Songs of Justice on CD, too. I downloaded both of these albums, but I needs them on CD. The new EP sounds great! The producer (and musicians) have given the sound a huge upgrade. It's kinda like the difference between the first and second Hillbilly Casino albums - sepia Kansas vs. the glorious technicolor of Oz!

Speaking of albums - the new Wanda Jackson LP is in a gatefold format, and when you open it up, it's like one of those musical greeting cards, playing a song from the album!

Flat Back Thriller-billy

I know my wife has your address filed somewhere but pm it to me and I'll get
a hardcopy of the new album in the mail and rip you a copy of the first 2 albums.

Thanks for noticing the quality difference as I've always had the same producer/engineer but this time he's had 3-4yrs of living in nashville with
his studio there in franklin. Plus he played drums on it so I can tell he
went the xtra mile (funny note..he used his kids toy drum set to give me
the adam ant like clicky drums on the Sweet dreams cover).
regardless of what Jeremy and I cooked up, having Geoff Firebaugh come in
and lay down his King Bass was a massive wow factor for us cuz the bassist
on the first album was an electric bassist who sort of switched over to
an upright but you just cant approach that instrument the same way.
Geoff has an upright bass built into his bone structure.

I saw that about the Wanda Jackson record on Conan, that's pretty cool!

I need some Tavo Vega and the Flat Black Thrillers tunes, I need to get on that!

yep I totally want that fold out version of her album! Jack white seemed pretty proud

too bad the cd doesn't have the "greeting card" gatefold treatment, atleats from what I'm aware of. I would like to have a digital copy to play in my car, but the last I checked Third Man records doesn't have digital downloads with the vinyl...decisions decisions!
