| Congratulations to Brian Setzer on his latest Grammy Nomination in the Best Pop Instrumental Album category!
When they eliminated so many of the instrumental categories this year, I thought for sure this category was gone. I'm glad to see it's here, and that Brian has scored yet another nomination.
I would like to thank Jeff Beck for not releasing an all-instrumental album this year! (Although his Rock-n-Roll Party album featuring Brian Setzer and Imelda May is nominated in the Best Rock Album category.)
The Brian's competition:
Wish Upon A Star - Jenny Oaks Baker E Kahe Malie - Daniel Ho The Road From Memphis - Booker T. Jones Hello Tomorrow - Dave Koz
And the Grammy goes to:
Setzer Goes Instru-Mental! - Brian Setzer (I wish)
Honor To Be Nominated My Arse-a-billy

| We don't, normally, but Rickabilly is a globalist, and can flawlessly incorporate the slang from most western civilizations into his dialogue. Congrats Brian! | |

| There is a phrase which enjoys usage in Manchester - where I live - but not in UK in general for anyone looking to incorporate 'arse' into their arsenal (ahem) of borderline acceptable phases - 'to see one's arse' ie 'he saw his arse about it' - means he was really annoyed!
Feel free to spread it across the world!!

| "Arse" seemed more polite than its American counterpart.
At least I didn't say "fanny."

| Amazing how time flies!
Seems like yesterday when he won 2 awards at the 41st Grammys, and here he is still being nominated for the 54th Grammys!
Not surprised at all.........
Note: Grammy Awards will take place on February 12, 2012.

| Booker T Jones records is good records in it's own style but IMHO it has too much vocals in it to be considered as an instrumental album, heh heh! | |

| Shista!
Booker T. Jones won.
A worthy nominee, to be sure. Nonetheless, disappointment abounds. Kanye West has three friggin' Grammys tonight and the telecast hasn't even begun, and Brian has now been waiting 11 years for a fourth Grammy.
Tony Bennett has 2 already tonight (including one with Amy Winehouse) and the Gordon Goodwin Big Phat Band (featuring Bernie Dresel) won one of its two nominated categories.
There has been a campaign to get some of the cut categories restored for next year. Hopefully, Brian won't need to record another entire album of instrumentals to win Grammy gold in the future. What's it gonna take? A Whitney Houston tribute album?
Best of luck on future nominations!

| I'm sorry. Were you and Ms. Houston close? Obviously, it was way too soon for a comment like that. Unless you have an extraordinarily sick sense of humor. Go back and check out the Michael Jackson thread if you want to see more immediate disrespect for the recently deceased. It wasn't a knock on Whitney Houston as much as it was a commentary on the music-buying public's ridiculously short attention span. I am frustrated that Brian has done some of his best work post-Dirty Boogie and while it gets just enough attention to get the nomination, it isn't enough to get the award. Booker T's album isn't even all instrumental (I guess neither is Setzer's if you count Go Go Godzilla.) One year, Brian lost to a George Benson tune that featured vocals from Al Jarreau. I understand when one recording might beat out a single track of Setzer's. But I really thought Instru-Mental, as a body of work, had enough to win the category. Crack is Wack-a-billy | |

| Yeah, it was a cheap shot... I should have said "a Justin Bieber tribute album" to express my frustration.

| While I think Setzer deserved the Grammy, let's not put too much value in the award or use it as a measure of an artist's creativity or worth. I certainly stopped doing that years ago.............though I still hold my breath every time Setzer is nominated! haha
Consider this: Though for various reasons (such as: specific nominated categories did not exist at the time, and rock music was heavily ignored in the 60s and 70s), the following artists never received a Grammy:
The Beach Boys
Led Zeppelin
Queen
The Doors
The Kinks
The Who
Bob Marley
There are many many more, all deserving........................
Have a great week everybody!
