At this stage of my life I really don't have the time, effort or inclination to devote to a band...those days are over sadly, but I still have the jones to make music. Have any of you ever used or know anything about drum machines? Is there such a thing as a bass machine, or prerecorded samples you can play along with? I know absolutly nothing about them although I've messed around with a G-dec at GC and found it annoying to say the least. There's got to be something else out there. Any thoughts?

Check ou Band in a Box, that's an awesome program with that you can easily produce play along files, You just have to type in the CHords of the Song and choose the style you want for the playalong.

Hope this helps!

the Linn drum machine was heavily used by most '80's bands, including one of my all time faovrite, Culture Club
here is the history and the bands that used this famous drum machine:

Sounds like Midi Files are your best bet.

There are plenty of free midi's available on the net (of varying quality), google midi file.
If you just want to jam along at home, the sound card in your computer will probably do.

If your looking at live or recording then a sound module like Rolands Sonic Cell is ideal.
You can also use software programmes that will produce great sounds.
