Rockabilly Revival
This compilation CD shows everything that is wrong with the music biz's general perception of what the rockin' scene is about. There are a couple of rockabilly tracks on it. There's more rock'n'roll, so it's a worthwhile buy. Please don't stick the 'purist' tag on me for saying this, because it's the equivalent of a reggae compilation with Ace Of Bass and The Piglets on it. Much of this stuff here is irrelevant in my opinion, some is just oldies, but hell, it's damn cheap!
My comment - I was playing this today and it's not bad at all.
Sure it's a mixture, and i would agree there isn't much 'Rockabilly' on it....
Maybe wrong title for this comp. 'A Taste of Rock n Roll' might have been better title.
Stray Cats 'Stray Cat Strut' fits in nicely between Bill Haley and Shakin' Stevens!
Never keen on Showaddywaddy............and not a bog Roy O fan.
Other highlights are 'La Bamba' , Runaway, Johnny B. Good Golly etc. So it's not short on good songs. Let down by 'Sweet Gene Vincent' and a few others....and by the fact there's not much rockabilly.
Big Daddy's 'Dancing in the Dark' is interesting - later to become Billy Joel's 'We didn't start the fire'. Elvis vs JXL - 'A little less conversation' is cleverly inserted at the beginning of Disc 2 - I still like this - but it's no way Rockabilly.
Maybe someone has this comp or would like to share details of a better or worse one?
Track lists and covers would be nice too if you have the time!
