Man he really put on a show and rocked super hard! He was out to impress with those licks! You know it too when he throws in those arpeggios! That gretsch sounded waaay better than that Tele and Paisley was totally out for some setzer tone. Unattainable.
As much as I respect Paisley as a guitarist, I had the impression watching last night that he had a hard time finding a place in the music. Setzer's big band fusion is not his genre and I think I saw only two occasions where Paisley was able to show off his skills. In short, I think Setzer kicked his ass!

Agreed. However, and I've already had this discussion over on GDP, if Setzer "sat in" with Paisley, on one of Paisley's arrangements, with Paisley's band, the result would have been the same (meaning the opposite)... Setz would have looked a bit out of place. These guys are my 2 favorite current guitarists & biggest current influences. I have nothing bad to say about either of them. But a little perspective, please.
Also- IMO that was a last-minute thing. Paisley is a pro, I've seen him many times. NO WAY was that rehearsed. Setz & the band was no doubt rehearsed, but it looked like they called Paisley the day of the taping and said "hey, wanna play with Setzer? It'll be cool tv, 2 guitar slingers..." so he said "sure, on my way. Have a Vox AC30 ready for me." Because I can speak from personal experience, Paisley is a MONSTER, as is his tone... that was NOT his tone, nor representative AT ALL at the monster he is.

I'm curious what Band that was in the Background. They had the Leo-Jackets, but that certainly was not the BSO!

That of course was not the BSO backing up Brian. It appears to be Nashville session players, more than likely. I'm suprised that Mark Winchester wasn't there. I know the drummer is the same drummer that played with Brian when he did the show with Ricky Skaggs at the Ryman quite a few years ago.

That was indeed my impression, Jon. It sounds so much like the Brian Setzer Orchestra. I claimed it was a BSO backing track in the GDP-discussion, but I'm not so sure anymore - I don't really hear Bernie's two-hand shuffle there (being a drummer, I'm sure you know what I mean). It looks like the drummer hits a couple of crash cymbals at the wrong time (I don't hear them when he hits them), but it could be my internet connection that's a little off.

I`m still sure this was a playback except vocals and guitars. That was a BSO backing track.You don`t get such a clear horn sound with just 1 or 2 mics in front of the section. Never! But i like the guitar perfomance by Brad as well. I`m a Setzer fan but it`s nice to see two amazing player together. Check out the Boogie Woogie clip. There is the fat sound of 3 or 4 trumpets in the middle of the song. On stage is only one trumpet player 9 feets away from the mic....
