I have the full program somewhere; there's another show like this in 1987-99 with Brian playing some songs in acoustic with James Intveld and Billy Zoom, quite curious!

There are quite a few gems on youtube. Maybe because we are quite used to see Brian with the BSO, Stray Cats... but when something like this sort of clips come up, I'm elated. Can't stop thinking of Brian playing or doing more stuff like this!

Here are the dates for those two shows:
Brian & Intveld: 16 May 1987
Brian & Slim Jim: 24 January 1991
I don't have too much information on Art Fein's Poker Party, but I believe it was a cable access tv show broadcast in the Hollywood/L.A. area (in other words, not regular tv)

I love James Intveld and I bet that show would be fantastic to see with Setzer! btw.. its hilarious to see Billy Zoom's copping a punk rock nonconformist attitude in that video!

I always thought it was a "problem" with Setzer, and not just a punk attitude. At least that's how I read the body language............

Well Billy Zoom is responsible for Brian's Amp tech work and speaks highly of him, at least to me in the past... Plus Billy zoom is truly punk rock and not interested in "getting along" or being a "team player" and a good deal of us rock guitar types unfortunatley fall into that catagory. I try hard to not be a jerk, but its in the DNA so I guess thats why I find it funny how bad Billy is acting in the video. Also being a band leader its in your nature to take control of things and exhort your direction in most situations so take what I mentioned above along with a competitive nature and we see what we see in the video... or not??
ps. ever seen that unplugged video clip were setzer gives lee rocker that look of "dont F this up"... yep.. that pisses band members and associates off after a while. Setzer cant help it, he demands perfection and he's a successful leader.

...then again the clip is 22 years old, and Billy probably wasn't doing amp tech for Setzer back then. I can't speak for how B & B feel about each other now (you have a better perspective), but 22 years ago things could have been quite different, and if so for reasons that we might never know (if in fact that was the case). I only meant to point out my impression of something that happened then, and not how they are now.
If it's strictly punk attitude, then why sit down for the taping ? Then again, maybe he did because he was already tight with Brian and hanging out with him all day.........regardless, it's a great clip to watch and enjoy!

Sam, Jon, thanks for this splendid moments !
About Billy's attitude, it seems he perfectly knows he's "under" the two others and he doesn't want a real jam because he probably can't go as far as the two others do. That might be wrong of course, it's just what I feel watching the clip. This, and the fact that he seems to really don't like Setzer's look (Live Nude Guitars era, long long hair...)

you do know who Billy Zoom of X (and the Blasters for a stint) is I hope, he KICKS ASS on the guitar man.. James intveld may look handsome and croon in a swanky twang but he sucks on guitar, an infant compared to BZ... Billy even has his own signature model Gretsch!
see him back in the glory days of the Blasters here:

you arent ALONE! Setzer's silverjets are unusually toneful as well.. When Dirty Boogie came out I got a silverjet and it was the worst POS tone dog in the world. like an anemic les paul at best. turns out only in the last 2yrs did fender start paying attention to the lame routing job happening at Terada factory. Now there is a decent "hollowing" out of the semi-hollow jet series..(my 04' round up was very twangy and bouncy) BUT the one Billy has and probably the late 50's models Setzer have are almost ALL hollow..
I REALLY want one.. oh well.

I was going to ask you about tonal aspects of the guitar. I like the sound of Setzer's on the Japan dvd. If I remember correctly, he recorded most of Riot with his green Jet, and I dig some of those tones as well.

from the picts of castle recording studio in franklin, tenn he was using that green sparklejet but he was using an echoplex and various smaller amps since the blonde bassman and space echo were post 50s era and he was trying to comp the vibe of those tweedy raunch n twang vibes of dimed combos fighting for space on the singer's mic (whether he went that far to do what elvis' engineers did in that session or not remains to be revealed)
BUT.. that 57' silverjet with dynasonics and rockin bar bridge for dirty boogie are a confirmed Space Echo with Blonde bassman..
word on the street is the true-arc aluminum is helping many to grab some of that old clangin twangin bark. I found I was able to get close enough with my Spectrasonic and alum saddles to satisfy my need for silverjet 57' sound. until the job ended last may..so... now I have only 1 gretsch
but man is an SSU a good one to have, quite a blessing actually.. and I Know you know what I mean!
the silverjet at castle??hmmmm

I was at that Blasters show where Dark night clip is from. 1986 Pihtipudas Finland, Los Lobos was on the bill, too.
