| Although you have to go to Chris Spedding's site to find tour dates for Robert Gordon and the Gang They Couldn't Hang, it looks like quite a tour for the North-Central US:
Robert Gordon and the Gang They Couldn't Hang (Chris Spedding, Glen Matlock & Slim Jim Phantom) Jan.16 2010 Lee's Liquor Lounge, Minneapolis, US Jan.17 2010 Oneida Casino, Green Bay, Wisc., US admission free Jan.18 2010 Oneida Casino, Green Bay, Wisc., US admission free Jan.19 2010 Oneida Casino, Green Bay, Wisc., US admission free Jan.22 2010 Potawatomi Casino, Milwaukee, US Jan.23 2010 The Abbey Pub, Chicago, US Jan.24 2010 The Magic Bag, Detroit, US
And the guys are playing Australia in April:
Robert Gordon and the Gang They Couldn't Hang Apr.2 2010 The Corner Hotel, Melbourne, Australia Apr.3 2010 The Metro Theatre, Sydney, Australia Apr.4 2010 Bluesfest, Byron Bay, Australia Apr.5 2010 Bluesfest, Byron Bay, Australia
I'll be curious to hear if there are any "special guests" at the Lee's Liquor Lounge show. I think Brian sat in with Lee one night last year when his band came to Minneapolis, but then again, it's Robert Gordon's band, not Slim Jim's.

| Hmmm...last year's birthday (1/19) present was tix to Brian's b-day concert. Looks like a free present for me this year! I recognize the fact that I am one lucky slob living so close to the Oneida Casino... (that's me as the king of the whole free live music world...) | |

| They do pretty much a Robert Gordon's set, with 2 songs by Chris (Guitar Jamboree & Motorbikin'), 2 by Glen (Treat Her Right & God Save The Queen) and 2 by Slim (Rumble & Rock This Town) and some rockabilly tunes: Ubangi Stomp, 20 Flight Rock, The Wanderer, C'mon Everybody, Black Slacks.... sounds great!
I saw Robert Gordon last August here in Spain and he was perfect! |

That sounds pretty much like Dead Man Walkin´ back in the days, with Billy Duffy on Gretsch guitar.

After seeing Brian Setzer playing with: -Marty Stuart -Chris Isaak ....It would be fantastic to see him sharing stage with Robert Gordon. And if I can go any further... sharing the stage with Dwight Yoakam for a couple hillbilly hits would be awesome too.

| Hi. I'm new on here (been lurking for about a year). My hubby and I will be at Lee's- can't wait to hear Robert Gordon live! Couldn't believe he is touring again/still and then WOW, what a lineup with the band. Should be a fab show. | |

| Welcome, MJ!
Hey, if you get a chance, could you post a review of the show? I'll be catching them Sunday night in Green Bay, and am looking forward to it very much!

| thank you for the welcome Yes, I'll be glad to post a review. Here's my review so far (pre-show): The Reckless Ones stink! They opened for Lee Rocker in June and UGH they were awful! They seem to have a little following of their own, though. The turnout for Lee Rocker was not nearly as large as we expected. We'll probably go late tonight to miss the opening act- got advance tix and the post at Lee's says "limited tix at the door" so must be selling out! Ok, I'll post something for you tomorrow. | |

| Ok, I'll try to get this on only 2 hrs sleep What a fabulous night! We did end up going early- wanted to make sure to get a decent spot (and a place to park). The gig was sold out. The first opening band was the F**k Knights. I did not have high hopes with the "unfortunate" name, but they were surprisingly excellent! The Restless Ones seem to have been practicing a bit and actually had one or two decent songs. They still need LOTS of practice and maybe if they focus on their music more than their "costume styling" they'd do ok. Robert Gordon is simply amazing and the "Gang" was incredible! It seemed as though it took Chris Spedding a song or two to warm up at the beginning of the show, but then he was amazing! What a talent! Slim Jim banged those drums with such energy all night and looked as though he was having a blast. I am always amazed to see that he doesn't seem to age. Robert Gordon still has that fabulous voice and seemed to be having a great time as well. Glen Matlock was great, but seems pretty aloof, though he really lit up during "his" songs (Treat Her Right and God Save the Queen). After a great set, Robert took a break and left it to the "Gang" to carry on for a while and they did not disappoint! Someone above (Slim Jon, I think) listed exactly the songs the trio did. Slim Jim made a comment about doing a couple of songs he wrote with his "friend in the audience" but "The Brian" did not join them on stage. Robert returned and they rocked For the finale, they did play Black Slacks- many people were asking for it for quite a while. The only (slight) negative was the amount of "huddle" time on stage, trying to figure out what was next. Not sure if the set list wasn't set up or if they were just "rusty" as Robert made the comment that they hadn't played together in six months. I apologize that I can't list everything- I didn't write anything down and was just so damn excited to be there Some of the songs they played included Suspicion, Lonely Weekends, C'Mon Everybody, Devil in Disguise, oh crud, I can't remember a darn thing! Got that old brain and was out WAAAAAY past my bedtime Gotta say, that seeing/hearing Glen Matlock play God Save the Queen was a big highlight for this ol' punk! The four were really incredible together! The entire night was excellent. The place was packed and it was a very mixed crowd. A lot of people were just standing and small groups were dancing (in place) and a few people actually *danced*. I was totally unable to sit still and wish we could make it to the Wisconsin shows- you are in for quite a treat! I had originally hoped to see Mr Setzer and even have him get up on stage (I have a bit of a Setzer obsession) but was so WOWed by the show, I really didn't care at all Can't wait to hear your take on the show tonight. ENJOY! | |

| Those of you who are Robert Gordon fans are going to be appalled at this opening, but... I had never heard of the guy before this thread opened I know, I know, I'm pretty uninformed! I had no previous reference to compare Gordon's performance to, so I'll take the easy way out on that and just say "ditto" to MJ's post above. I do, however, have a story to relate about the break between Gordon's two sets. He announces he's taking a 10-minute break, and the Gang breaks into a medley thing. I'm remembering snippets of various artists, such as Hendrix and Clapton. It was almost as if they were a local bar band, trying to win over the crowd by giving them something they'd recognize. So while this medley, is going on, Gordon comes down into the lounge - not backstage. He orders a drink at the bar. People approach him, shake his hand, have a word, return to their table. Once his drink arrives, he turns around to find a place to sit down. My wife and I had a table to ourselves. He walks over and asks if he can sit down! I said, "Of course, please do." Then he pulls out a black zippered case, about the size of a large wallet, takes out a pair of glasses that looked very 1955, and a cigarette, and asks, "Do you mind if I smoke?" I said, "No, not at all, go right ahead!" (sorry, need to break - will finish later. Not trying to jerk you guys around, but I really need to go!) | |

| ok, trying not to FREAK OUT now! I am not totally appalled that you hadn't heard of Robert Gordon before. We've got all of his music (and Link and....the list goes on- really huge music buffs over here). Why I'm "freaking" is that of everyone there, he comes and sits with you- how COOL! And now, you've left us hanging... Waiting to hear more BTW, not sure if I mentioned but I met Glen Matlock after the show- SO exciting As an ol' punk, it was a huge thrill! We were leaving and he was outside having a smoke (can't smoke inside in MN except in the casinos). SO I went up to him and he was very cordial and gracious and let me have a pic taken with him. Ok, now back to your story- do tell... | |

| OK, home from school!
So anyway, he lights up while the Gang is playing away, and he leans over and says, "Not bad for a bunch of old guys, huh?"
I replied, "I though you were gonna say 'Not bad for a bunch of kids'!" He laughed, and we went back to listening. (Not very snappy dialogue, I know, but it's kind of hard to chat when the music's going.)
At this point I'm fully aware of the fact that I'm living a classic fan moment, but I can't really appreciate it! Maybe he sat by us because he has 'fan-dar' - the ability to detect someone who won't spazz out when they meet him!
He finished his cig and went back by the sound board to talk to Phil, the guy who books the talent at the casino. The crowd gets a little rowdy - one guy yelled, "Where the hell's Robert Gordon?" So now he's probably about 20 minutes into his 10 minute break, and he comes back into the lounge area...and sits down next to me for another cigarette!
Then Cellphone Camera Guy shows up. At first I wasn't sure what the guy asked Gordon; it was kind of loud in there. I noticed Gordon nod kind of curtly, then the guy asks someone to take the picture. Does she know how to work the camera? Of course not, she's a total stranger! So it took awhile. I don't think Gordon was too thrilled, but he was at least polite to the guy. After the guy left, Gordon finished the second cigarette, and he went back up on stage.
And that was my brush with greatness. It was a great show, and now I have a new artist to follow. It is too bad this little encounter couldn't have happened to an already-fan instead of me! But I believe that everything, even little stuff like this, happens for a reason. Maybe someday I'll find out what the reason was!

| Thanks for sharing, MJ!
The set list I have of one of those first shows in the summer goes as follows:
15 August 2008 - Horseshoe Tavern, Toronton, ONT, Canada
The Way I Walk Come On Everybody I'm Gonna Be Your Lover Boy Tonight Ubangi Stomp Suspicious Look Who's Blue Fire Lonely Weekends Wild Wild Women
CHRIS SPEDDING set: Guitar Jamboree Motorbikin'
GLEN MATLOCK set; Treat Her Right God Save The Queen
SJP set: Rumble In Brighton Rock This Town
Beside You Move It (and Groove It) Little Sister 20 Flight Rock Wasting My Time I'm A Hot Rod Black Slacks Rockabilly Boogie * encore * It's Only Make Believe
This show sounds amazing and it was quite curious when Glen performed God Save The Queen, as the band stopped the song due to a member of the crowd fainting, and they asked for a doctor!! They resumed the song later on! |
