| Hey all. Sort of new here and I don't post much but I thought I would share this story will you all. I figured that we all share at least one thing in common and that being the love of Setzer and guitars. Ok two things. Just wanted to pass along something that happened to me lately. My father just passed on about two months ago. I knew that he was a guitar player way back in the day and that he noodled around on it here and there. What I didn't know was that he had purchased an electric when he was about fifteen and played it for about fifteen years in bars and other places of dubious distinction. And about two weeks ago I found the guitar, that had not been played in about thirty years, at his house. I know it's not a Gretsch, but still cool. It's a '62 and has just enough mojo to be cool. And now it's mine. Although I would trade it in a second....you know the rest.[img] [/img] | |

| Welcome to the Lounge! Great story! I wouldn't trade that if it were me. That's a special part of your dad that is now yours. | |

| please dont trade it PLEASE!! Regardless of if you were close to your father or not at some point you too will be old (I know its horrible to think) and will have an heirloom to share. Very cool story and I'd dig hearing more..seeing historical picts, ect I'm sorry for your loss and grateful for you sharing.. There's a special guitar that I hope doesnt end up in my hands for several more decades. My dad worked for fender and built himself a coronadoII that I grew up playing and learning rockabilly on. I was over there at the house a week or so ago and asked my mom to take a picture of me standing in the same spot I did 30yrs prior with that same guitar (dad just kinda looked at me like I was nuts, whats new). ME and the guitar are sort of faded looking now... I know y'all have seen this one posted before.. young and wild just before I wacked all the hair off in trade for a quiff and as I said.. this is what a lifetime of #$%@ does to a man and a guitar (and yes some of us get beat with the ugly stick harder than others..ehehm) you gotta post a pict of your dad and the guitar back in the day and one of you with it now... thats my challenge to you, even that is a worthy heirloom?? | |

| You nutty kids!! I don't think johnnykool has any plans of trading the guitar for anything. What I think he was saying is that he'd trade it in a second to have his father back.
That is a BEAUTY of a guitar!!

| I would have to ask my grandmother and mother if they have any pictures of him playing it way back in the day. Like I said, he put it away to raise a family and barely pulled it out save for a couple of occasions when I was starting to learn. Mostly, it just sat in his bedroom for the past thirty or so years and barely saw the light of day except for when me and my brother went in and played it when he was at work. Oh how we must have disrespected it. I want to take it to get looked over and setup and restringed, although it barely needs it, but I am very wary of where to take it to. Maybe I'll just work on it myself. Trust me, I'm alot more careful now. By the way, thirty years of seasons and humidity swings, remember, he was not a pro, does wonders to the wood and pickups. What a tone. | |

If you were around here (riv, CA) it would be my pleasure to set up for you for free.

| Hey Tavo!!! Thanks for the words of encouragement and at least thinking my guitar is cool. Sounds like a trip to so-cal might be in order!!! Speaking of Fender's (never thought you'd see that written, I'll bet), that Coronado looks sweet. I've often thought of playing one but the only one I"ve ever seen was painted some god awful yellow. Like not even cool Hot Rod yellow. Almost the yellow that the words "Brian Setzer Fans" is written on the top of the page. What's the tone like? Compared to a _____. Do you have any tips on setting that guitar up? I took it to one place here in Nova Scotia, Canada, and I thought I was going to have to go out swinging...and not BSO swinging... I haven't setup or worked on anything like this before i.e. vintage and am a little apprehensive of what the age has done to the inner workings (truss rod, neck wood and what not). Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks. And thinking more and more about a blondshell. Where can I order from for Canada? | |

regarding the amp, I responded on the other post but to add to it..have you had a chance to listen to a billyjazz cat by the name of Paul Pigat? He wants one of these amps but sez he doesnt think canada would let me ship it in, and he'd have to come down to so cal to get it (but so cal doesnt pay well, venues are after bro rock) ...so does that mean there is some kind of electronics "embargo" between the US and Canada? I ship my nocturne pedals to canada with no problem? ps.. that guitar needs to see a Fender custom shop certified luthier..DO NOT take it to anyone else or they will ruin the value of that guitar (unless its post late 80s..then its kinda not worth more than its list price) I would handle that guitar with great love! Strats are my barbies.. I know that sounds kinda gay but the Stratocaster is so readily interchangeable with parts from a million aftermarket manufacturers I have kind of built up a working knowledge on these guitars over the last 2 decades and can spot non OEM stuff in a strat.. I'm no licensed specialist, just a road warrior

| Hey guys and gals. Been a long time since I was on here as it seems that the link has been corrupted somehow in Canada. Whatever, I found a backdoor. Just an update on this guitar that I showed you all a couple of months ago. As it seems, the sisters of fate did not have it in their minds for me to own this guitar for long. On November 15th, my home in Windsor, NS was broken into and all my gear was stolen. I won't bore you with the details of what was taken as I had amassed a fairly sizable and valuable collection. Not so much maybe in money but in sentimental value. To date, we have recovered most of the gear save for a late fifties Duo-Jet and this very Strat. The police have been very helpful and not a day has passed that I haven't stopped in or called the surrounding pawn shops to see if they have seen or heard anything. I fear that the other two guitars may be gone for good but I'm hoping that they end up in good homes. The duo-jet I'm not really concerned about other than the financial investment but the Strat is serious business. If anyone hears of a '62 going for a rediculously low price, let me know. I want this guitar back. I have been regaled to playing my fifties strat re-issue in the meantime, which, although a sweet guitar, is no original. Guess that'll teach me for living next to a high school. You guys are awesome and thanks for the words of encouragement in letting me feel that my guitar was cool enough to be allowed on this website. Till later,
Johnny Kool | |
