For any Adam Ant fans in USA, in case you weren’t aware he is touring America in February. I saw him in June and again last week and this is the best he’s ever been. I’ve seen him live quite a few times since about 1979 and he is currently leaning heavily on the first two albums – Dirk Wears White Sox and Kings of the Wild Frontier. Even the later hits like Stand and Deliver and Vive Le Rock really …rock!
The band is the best one he’s had although they are visually perhaps a bit too anonymous. The guitarist gets a great sound from a Tele and HiWatt and Adam plays loads of guitar too (LP through a HiWatt). Encore is rip-roaring versions of Get It On and 20th Century Boy.
Seems to have had universally excellent reviews in UK and in Manchester sold out The Academy in June –approx 800 audience and the Ritz last week approx 1500 audience. Many dates through the UK were sold out on this and the last tour – seems to be on a roll at moment.
Incidentally Adam and the Cats have a few connections for those that might not know. Adam was friends with the band in the early UK days and used to have a Stray Cats sticker on his tele. I met him in about 85 when he was acting in theatre production in Manchester and had a Stray Cats T-shirt on – we chatted about them and he said was one of his favourite bands – even writing down the place where I got the shirt from!
Also the White Falcon that Brian used to play in Stray Cat Strut video was bought by Adam’s guitarist Marco Pironni and is the same guitar as featured in the Vive Le Rock publicity shots.
