I want a hoodoo voodoo lounge convention!! How awesome would that be, a heap of us in the same room at the same time.. and of course Mr Setzer would have to come along and be our in house entertainment Nose Pickin' Pete would cater for the food, just dont pick your nose over MY dish!

Hey TV can you carve tikis as well?.. I was over Marcus Thorn's (well known Aussie tiki carver) place a couple weekends ago for his annual luau, and his tikis are MASSIVE! I stayed the night in his tiki room which is pretty much a cluttered mess of mugs, figures, velvet paintings and dead fish - but hey aren't they all like that? Over breakfast I realise that old mate Marcus is a massive Stray Cats/Setzer fan himself! I'm pretty sure I convinced him to carve a stray cats gear shift knob thing (like in the same sort of vein as the cat head on Lee's King bass) He better carve a second for me! Hey Kelly, Marcus is over in Hawaii right now - I think he appeared on Good Morning Hawaii or something, restoring some old tikis.. Haha I totally forgot why I started talking about this... oh yeah, so are you in to tikis or just happen to be wearing a tiki shirt?.. Because if you are into tikis, so am I! In Australia tiki lovers are few and far between, it just didn't really kick off here.. To give you an idea I know you could go in to a thrift store and buy a tiki mug for $1 or something low like that, in Australia because mugs weren't big here when they first started if you DO find one (which is pretty freakin' rare) it costs around $25 even for some no name mass produced mug.. Even most rockabilly people down here don't even know what tiki is! Hopefully with Marcus doing more things at rockabilly events and what not tiki will get better well known down here, albeit still 'underground' but better than nothing at all!

I was just talkin to my wife about how great it would be to have a HDVDL gathering!
..and yes I have carved a "little" bit. I literally chopped down the Pepper tree out front
of my house and turned the stump into a Tiki so that it couldnt be stolen(turns out pepper wood is like steel, and I broke 3 chainsaws before I gave up on it). Tiki's are
expensive! I have several around my pool and my bar is Shag's old tiki bar. Got some
vintage and new tiki mugs as well...
To me, mid century modern design, tiki,hotrods,low brow art and rockabilly go hand in hand....
right now I'm caught up in visiting all the old restaurants, motels,etc that are post world war II atomic and tiki design "mid century".

Awesome! I'd love to go around America visiting all the old (and new) tiki bars and restaurants.. If anything I would have LOVED to have gone to the Kahiki in Columbus Ohio, but alas - they tore it down and put a walmart in it's place (or walgreens?... wal something).. I have a few tiki mugs, many are from friends in America who felt sorry for me There is really only one really good tiki bar in Australia (The Hula Bula Bar) and it's all the way over the other side of the country in Perth.. That's so cool you have shags old bar!

little trinkets from my grandmas many trips from the motherland to the states. that wild lady never became a US citizen, she was so dedcated to her beloved Sydney. God bless you

nah man, I was fun'n with ya.. you dont think every tall friend of mine hasnt constantly
made jokes my whole life, it was plenty of amo in high school for me to spend 3 yrs in goju-ryu marshall arts. you know the shorter guys all have really big mouths and hot tempers and we get ourselves in trouble constantly.

Marcus is AWESOME!! Had these two big framed memorabilia type things at his house - one BSO related and one Stray Cats related.. he recently moved house and knew that I would appreciated said objects so he offered them to me... for $300 each!.. Thanks Marcus, but students don't have that kind of money to blow.. yes, even on Setzer related matter.. I'm far too logical dangit!

Marcus Thorn is a Tiki Carver from Australia.. he specialises (or is known for) BIIIIIIG tikis, I'm talking 8ft BEASTS!! When I was at his house I took a look down the back where he carves and saw a couple of HUGE tikis partly carved.. VERY COOL! He spends alot of time in Hawaii doing the carving thing.. He's the coolest and nicest guy - really into rockabilly, hot rods and a BIG Setzer/Stray Cats fan.. When I was eating breakfast with him we discussed him carving a Stray Cats Head gear shift knob for me... I'm still waiting for it .. In any case, a very talented man with a great personality
