| I hope you're wrong, Tavo. Though I must admit, it has been awfully quiet here since Brian's official site opened their forum. And even quieter after the good, old hoodoovoodoo-board disappeared.... Anders | |

| I dont think this forum is dead as such and I do think things will pick up again soon. It is a little quiet in Setzerville at the moment but it'll soon be the Stray cats farewell tour so I'm sure there will be plenty to see and talk about then. Im struggling to find things to do in PhotoShop too - I need some inspiration Dont be so down hearted Tavo Cheers PP | |

| You must remember we just recently moved too. Some of the old timers have not checked in yet. It may take some time for us to return to a very active status. | |

| TV-- Would it help if I made the roast beef sammiches using mustard instead of mayo? I can bring some import beer down to the cave as well, if that would help spice things up? We're not dead....it's just the end of the school year, things are hectic, we're jealous of the European tour....We'll try harder...I promise. Going back upstairs to bake more homemade bread..... ~nj Kid--you're not mocking "Dirty Dancing" are you?? That would be blasphemy! | |

| It's your fault I don't post here much Mr. Turtle. My equipment status has reached a point (thanks to you) that GAS no longer attacks. My Club Royale is the shit and I don't need pedals except for the heavy distortion and delay. My gear soul is satisfied (for now). Now, I have no excuses to blame my crappy playing on.

N oh ya? ever play an Avalon acoustic guitar, the day you hold one and play it for 5 minutes nothing you've owned thus far will compare to it. Gibson's dont have enough presence, Taylors are too sterile, Martins are droll...but this company's guitars are all of the guitars above in one and to hold the neck is like the mojo of sliding your hand into an old ball glove that just fits you and moves with your movements! http://www.avalonguitars.com/index.cfm?do=guitars&gid=17ps. you have yet to also plug your tele into a Subdecay Liquid sunshine overdrive! I'm sellin my Timmy to get one. heeehehheehehehehe http://www.subdecay.com/ls.htm

| That's a nice try there buddy, but I don't like playing acoustics. Never have. Haven't owned one since I was 18. I can't explain it, but I just don't care for them. The pedal was another nice try, but I'm not using a overdrive pedal for most of my sound. The Club Royale works perfectly. I'm quite content. Care to try again? N | |

N I understand the acoustic thing, my dad raised me on electric but I write my songs on acoustic and its got to have the sound of drums, piano, and bass in it to inspire me. Having said that I still hate ever having to perform live with them but since i do quite abit of gospel (or did..that job ends in june) they serve me well capo'd for mandolin-esque sounds. anyway.... If you grew up with aerosmith and Queen pounding out of the neighbors dodge challenger with a quadraphonic 8track stereo every day in the 70s, you just couldnt miss the signature sound of Brian May's guitar amp. The layered creamy singin sound of his leads were incredible and I never understood how he accomplished this when I was a boy, but I wanted to. Now I know May has a fabled little amp called the dearcy? that supposedly was used for the recordings but he still friggin sounds like the albums live. Thats from a slab of dark wood, hot single coils, a rangemaster treble booster and vox grey panel amps with over 100ft of guitar cable that places massive capacitance on the guitar and treble boosters tone. A filter if you will, that bleeds off the presence but still send a honkin wallop of snarky upper mids into that vox circuit that already wants to break up early on (think tophat club royale in the bright channel, input 1 with the treble dialed down to off the mids at 3 oclock, and cut knob smoothin the fizz around 2 oclockish..which acts like the 100ft of cable). That sound in itself is pretty damn cool but when the booster blend hits the amp, it locks that sucker down into a super saturation of sustained, singing, highly compressed overdrive the amp never could muster on its own (sorry your tophat too). add into that treble booster (not talkin TIM pedal clean boost or fulltone fat boost) the ability to control gain texture and assymetrical clipping that specifically can be dialed to the highs of pedal circuit or the lows (the timmy has this control inside of it with dip switchs like the liquid sunshine) and you and your guitar-amp are doing things almost illegal. but... thats okay, you like to color inside the lines. thats cool. more subdecay pedals for me!! btw.. SRV thought his Live/alive disc was terrible but to me it captured the raw tones of his multitude of guitar amps and especially his fender Vibrotone / doppler cab. I love this effect and pedals dont do it. Dave gilmour also is a doppler effect guy, has stereo doppolas made for his rotating speaker/leslie sound... Oh man..my nips perk to this sound.. The thing is, the speaker must physically spin, or the baffle at least..nothin else comes close and I have a fulltone dejavibe. pedals cant compete. dont want to lug a leslie ANYWHERE? check this baby out, its only about a foot tall and totally portable: the lil' lanalei Rotary Wave (pete anderson uses one too) the deets: http://www.soundonsound.com/sos/jan01/articles/sessentials.htm

| Watch out for them gui-tars, fellers! They'll gitcha, gitcha good! As for things forumular, I just anted up here t'other day. The vibe seems quite odd all over Setzer-land, imho. Tommy's forum has a different buzz all together. Anywho, my latest pedal is the Boss LS-2 line switching pedal. It's quite versatile in setting up 2-3 different pedal groupings and then selecting which suits the fancy. Someday I'll get an avatar image up, I swears it! | |

| Not dead yet but it took a pretty big couple of hits. I gotta admit, I'm fond of the conspiracy theories that abound about the spam-crash-new forum timing. Although I'm not a big poster, I've been a luker for a long time, maybe I should take a more active role. I like the other site just fine, but the vibe of HDVDL seems less Eurocentric...or is that just my xenophobia coming through?
Come to think of it, did you ever notice that Euro's approach American roots type music differently than Americans do? I can't quite put my finger on why that is. That techno pop dance stuff just seems to come through in what ever folks are doing on the other side of the pond. I blame ABBA...but then again, we had the Carpenters.

| I won't go into politics too much except to say I liked Ike. But there is (I think) something that makes an American ear a little different from the rest of the world. I suppose what I'm trying to say is best summed up in the words of Wade Cry Baby Walker when he says:
"I'd like to sing something in his memory. Something hill-billy... something colored!"
Being Hillbilly and colored is a thing only an American can truely understand, it's in our DNA even if we're not technically hillbilly or colored. Oh by the way, I'm officilly swearing off the other forum...for no particular reason other than I feel inexplecably guilty when I lurk there. No offense Tommy but Nikko and Tavo have yet to steer me wrong.

| Ok, after having spent some time mostly lurking on both of these forums, I'll say that I still prefer HDVDL, even though I miss the old format. This place feels like home. I think a lot of folks just haven't migrated to our new facility. I've noticed some HDVDL vets are active on the official site. I haven't been posting much anywhere due to time constraints and not being as musically active - playing, GAS, etc. although I have been following the RE-201 discussion rather closely. By the way, thanks guys for saving me some $ since I was seriously considering purchasing one of those. I'll stick to my old Boss! | |

you know I've been wanting confirmation about Setzer using the Boss DM-2 analog delay, and I have conjectured (from his instructional video use of Boss demo) thus, but I swear from old video it totally looks like he is using the Ibanez AD-9. I love the AD-9 it is the most organic sounding but the Boss has a tighter slapback without sound like all the digital pedals. The Boss DM2 and DM-3 are serious gems for rockabilly cats and for those of us that like a little "foxy laaadeeh" once in a while. here's a challenge, who can dial in the best closeup of that little purple-ish pedal at the foot of Setzer's cab back in the old days!! that would be something to cherish on this board. (btw.. I own tech schematics and oper. manual for the RE-301 if anyone is interested, I had plans to build its preamp in a pedal..)
