Dick-heads on ebay

Tickets sold out for the one show that the Cats are playing in America, that I wanted to see so badly this year and some Dick-heads got'em to turn'em on EBAY. Fricken sucks!!!!!!

I know it sucks that people buy tickets just to list them on Ebay, I know but people must eke out a living the best way they are capable of doing, don't you think?? I am not deffending them at all, but if that way was the only one for you to get yourself in the should, wouldn't you buy the ticket on Ebay??? Don't you buy many things on the Ebay as many of us do??
So, what's the problem then??

If I could afford the logistics, flights, hotels, etc. I would buy from ebay. It does suck, but that's the way it is.

yeah, that was my point. If some of us, no US residents could afford it, for us, Ebay is the only way to get that ticket.

I've actually bought some tickets from ebay sellers in the past that were primo seats. Of course I paid through the a&& for them, but they were worth it IMHO.

by the way... is it legal to re-sell tickets of any kind??? shows, sports, etc...?? In Spain it is not, and is prosecuted.

you know what?? I bet some of those ebayers are registered here and get secret info from us that is how they get a hold of their tickets, happens all over the message boards, folks posing as fans just to rip off the artists and management, grrrrr

I buy and sell on Ebay all the time. It is a good second income for my wife and I. I have never sold any tickets for shows though. It is legal to sell them, but I have never done so. I have however bought a ticket to The BSO's Chistmas show 3 years ago, it was a pit ticket and it only cost me $125.00. Not too bad for the best seat in the house.

The only easy way to stop this is to make tickets personaly and have id control at the shows.

Good to know it is not ilegal in the US. It is in Spain.

Anyway, I did buy once a couple tickets on Ebay for a THE CULT show in Atlantic City. I payed $1.00 for both of them. YES, one dollar for both, plus $10 or $15 for overnight shipping, but I would have never payed $400 or $500 for those tickets, or any Stray Cats tickets.

It´s not the sellers fault anyway... it´s the buyers fault for paying that much. But well, if you have the money and want to go... if you can afford it, I´m no one to tell what is right or wrong.

I do respect all the people that sell on eBay, as long as they follow the rules.

Ticket scalping is illegal. However on ebay it is not, with conditions. New Jersey laws on ebay or any event ticket agency, you can only sell tickets 20% more then ticket price. New York any price you want. I do not know of other states limitations.

I know the ticket scalping laws vary by state, and in MN it used to be illegal to sell for more than face value. I believe this changed last year.

Sure, people can make money and a fair amount of money being a ticket scalper, but I do agree that it should have stayed illegal.

What the ticket scalpers are doing is taking away the opportunity for the artist/performer/sports team... to make the money on their product in an ethical manner without a middleman. This middleman is being the hurdle in the system when the consumer wants to buy the original product.

If I were to go buy all of the milk at a grocery store, then stand outside of the store and tell people they have to pay me 20$ a gallon for it, I am nearly positive people would beat the crap out of me, and I would deserve it.

Ticket scalpers are taking advantage of a situation, an unfortunate lapse in a state law, and, to be nice and colorful, are just plain ol assholes. I do hold a small grudge because I was at the venue the morning they went on sale, and I was sent away empty handed with my hard earned money. Now, If I want to even think about going to see this show, 20 minutes from my home town, I have to scrape and save for who knows how many more months now because of assholes like these.

Yes, I agree that most of the tickets bought were purchased by fans. There is no doubt the show was going to sell out. They advertised the tickets on the main website for a few days, and that was seen by people all over the world. Those people reacted, acted, and can now take advantage of the fact that they might be able to make a small vacation to spend some time in the greatest state in the world, Minnesota.

In every system, there is always something that isn't right. The people who are now going to use this event and their possession of tickets for their own financial gain is an absolute crock.

Again, I value the right to have an opinion on this, because I know many will agree with my viewpoints, and many will disagree, and I am very OK with that.

In Spain it's ilegal but the way to do it it's quite easy... just put another item with it and give the ticket for free... that's they way they do.
However, once the ticket is in your hands... why can't you do whatever you want to???

Okay I've heard enough from the "bleeding hearts". If people wanna make money selling concert tickets then they should become a legitimate ticket business. When people buy tickets from a licensed ticket dealer, they are completing a contract with the venue by paying the set amount for a reserved seat or entrance to the event.

Buying tickets and taking advantage of the special occassion by turning them for a dishonest profit, all they are doing is a dis-service to the fans and musicians.

with that assumption, all the occassional sellers on the Ebay that just want to get rid of a couple of old LPs should be authorised sellers and pay an amount to the artist... don't you think??

It's the same with the tickets: if you buy them, they are yours, and if you want to sell them later on, you are on your right to do it. Other option: if that bothers you that much, do not get them via Ebay... if people wouldn't buy tickets via Ebay, no one would actually sell them that way

I have often thought about the idea of people selling music on eBay, and their ability to do so. Like, I would obviously not be able to sell digital downloads of CDs that I own. But I can sell a CD that I have purchased. The artist sees no money from the sale I make to someone else. How is that legal?

Also, the difference in selling concert tickets versus an album, is the album is a tangible item, where the tickets are a contract to a service in form of a musical performance, not a "tangible" item.

But of course, there are ALWAYS ways to get around rules.

Ticket brokers - legalized ticket scalping. Didn't Ticketmaster even have a ticket broker company used to re-sell their own tickets?

Season tickets - many examples of people who purchase season tickets to sporting events, then sell the tickets they dont want to use, or even all. I even did this when I needed to get rid of my college football tickets, but, I rarely got face value for them.


I dunno, it is a very interesting topic, I think it is very neat to see what can be done, personal opinions on the issue, and potential solutions to the issue.

Case and point, on EBAY, 2 tickets for the concert $449 - "occassional seller"? Under the circumstances, with one show in America, Setzers birthday, intimate venue, this could be extortion. That dude had no intension of going to the concert.

One show in America?
Setzer's birthday?
Intimate venue?
Tickets sold out before they go on sale?
Sounds like "crowd control" if you ask me.
One way to control who attends would be to purchase all the tickets, eh? Sell them at 800% profit, eh?

Hey this shit happens all the time. Especially for the BIG venues and Groups like U2 for example. U2 only charges a decent price for a ticket 75USD . All ticket sales go to charity. Then this assholes get the tickets and one U2 ticket will go for 500 USA . Bruce does the samething affordable ticket prices. Then you have people like MADONNA who charges box office price 500USD and people sell them for 2000USD or 3000USD per ticket. AC/DC charged 75 USD for every seat in the arena's on the Black Ice Tour and people were selling them for 500 USD per ticket. I get emails from ticketmaster so I see all the Box Office prices of all different artists.
