| Oh you want to know the settings from the eearly Stray Cats era. Well I don't know the exact settings but you can listen to the records and try to set up yor delay to somthing sounding similar to the thing you here on the songs.
Try a short delay time and the repeat volume about half way up.

ECT) used brian before the space echo? rick In a Guitar Player Magazine interview from September 1983, Brian says this: I just use a little echo box; I think it's an MXR. It's a standard box that's got two knobs and you stick a battery in the bottom. I used to use tape echoes, but the electronic ones are a lot more convenient and they sound exactly the same. But like Guitarmaniac wrote, it's been discussed (several times, actually) on this board, as it seems the MXR didn't have just two knobs. I guess Brian's become more gear conscious over the years. The whole interview is scanned and posted here: Brian in Guitar Player '83Anders

| Appreciate you posting that for everyone to read. I chuckle when I read it as its interesting from the perspective that Setzer had gained fame in the US with the stray cats but was still a "kid: and didnt know crap about his equipment (called his pickups microphones). Which makes it even more genious since he chose things that worked for his muse, his ear and spirit was specific even though his conscious effort wasnt necesserarilly focused on having an original and signature sound! I'm gonna hold to the fact I have see the purple/pink box at the foot of his bassman cab in a video or two... I wish I could find it. FWIW.... in the later 80s MXR put out a crappy plasticy box called the D-166 TIME Delay. I had one and they had this terrible low res overtone that would ring at the end of each echo. All to say just as he naively shared in that interview generalizations on old ribbon mics for recording, calling his amp "an old white bassman", he probably just off the cuff called his delay an MXR... | |

| I think I see some pedal stuff in the Rockpalast Videos from 81, but I can't really identify what kind of pedals there are. | |

| I think there might be a shot of it in the Guitar of Brian Setzer instructional VHS/DVD video. I'm not sure, but I believe it be thar'. Unfortunately, what we need is a concert/performance/instructional video from that period in High-Definition, that way we can make out all the positions of the knobs, etc. (Ha!Ha!Ha!)

| In the instrucional DVD he already uses the 301. The only stompboxes he uses there are chorus, octaver, 2 tube screamers and the cry baby wahwah. He also had a Fender Tube Reverb in his rig at that time. | |

Say what you wish but the sound of the guitar like in that "Love is repaired..." intro riff is just awsome imo. @elvis: I don't know when he first got the 301.
