I'm a new fan now of Jim Campilongo, as I got to see him on the same stage at the NAMM show this last month along with Lee Rocker and The Blasters.
He was using a new fender Princeton and I was blown away since I hate new fender amps and amp a big fan of early silverface princetons and deluxes (blackface with silver face facia).
Maybe it was his hands but sheeeze it gave me religion, I do wonder if it hit the amp shop and got a "mod" first but at least it lets me know I can have a nice nice sounding living room amp.
and him in a different video laying it out wit da "harlem nocturne":

I've been listening to Jim for about a year now. He's... different... interesting. Be sure to check out his work with Norah Jones on the Little Willies album... he's got some smokin' stuff on there!

thats him? ha..wow I bought that album at starbucks and just kind of put it on the counter. I'll go listen!
I think I was really enthralled watching him perform, but I do like that space age bachelor pad jazz=ish stuff with a good shiraz/cab and stogie. I kind of collect vintage exotica music like a sickness.

Lucky me then, because this weekend I am off to buy me a brand new Princeton. I have decided to use it as a gig and practice amp. Looking forward to combine it with the Nocture and the SSLVO
I`ve tried it with the new Road Worn 50`s. Holy smoke, that SRV sound was right there, volume at 6 o`clock.

A new family member SSLVO and the new Pricenton Reverb without any modification (not yet, I think I need a Celesetion V30 in there - if possible ? ) really sound sweet together...! It breaks nicely at 4 - 4 and half with the Gretsch, and with the Reptile and little bit of TIM on top it is wonderful. Classic fender in a little box with ALOT of sound and volume when cranked up. I don`t like to much reverb but if I am in a surf mood it shure is there. The Vibrato just keeps me even more happy.
Had it in my little practice room yesterday, my wife didn`t complain and my two girls didn`t wake up
Today I will hook with the band and blow them away

heck ya!! I carry that through mojotone but its less work to just shoot the grill cloth with multiple passes of spritzer mix using espresso, iodine, and yellow #5 with a smidge of denatured alcohol... smells like hell for a day or 2.
in the pict, the vibroking cab had new "silver sparkle" cloth like your princeton, you can see the results of my aging method. Its close to looking like the 43yr old bassman's cloth but not as cool.

Cool! On this forum I learn something almost every day, specially from you
Question; After rehearsing with the band yesterday I found out that the Jensen (C-10R, 8 ohm, 40 watt Speaker)was "farting" a little when doing the low F and G`s. Could be the TIM settings but found out that I should replace the speaker. Should I go for the Vintage G12H30 (30 W) or the V30 (60W) ?

regarding your speaker, you have a 10" speaker in that combo not a 12" so the dynamics are slightly different with less surface area and an open back small cab.
You have many choices of course but instead of a Celestion V30, you have a Celestion Vintage 10. I thought these sounded great in my mesa cab at 8ohms, and they worked really well in the Fender Prosonic 210 combo. Plus it handles 60watts
The closet match for a G12H30 (if you could somehow redo the speaker baffle and fit this in, it would be God's combo for sure! IS the Celestion G10 greenback.. Greenbacks sound sooo good in fender small combo amps and this greenback 10" is delicious too.
ps. JENSEN does have a new 10" 100 watt speaker and they are suppose to have the uber fat low end and take punishment. the Jensen Jet Blackbird 10 It would be the most "ready for war" speaker and give you max headroom, highest output alnico 10 on the market....
but not the sweetest Alnico 10"..the celestion gold alnico 10" is 40 watts of right-wee-sexy-bastard!
but the greenback is soooo sexy

hmm...I want to go for the God combo, I assume it should be a easy match for a amp engineer to custom make the baffle.
I also love the TungSol tubes so I am already considering changing the Groove tubes. Any suggestions on the pre-amp tubes ?

the groove tubes are okay but Fender owns the groove tube name and the tubes are just basic russian everyday jobs.
But.. you dont 6L6's in that amp, you have 6V6's.. doesnt mean you cant rebias and go to the small bottle 5881 tungsol reissue though..
I would first suggest trying a duo of the JJ/Tesla 6V6, they take very high plate voltages so if you ran these and took out the stock 5AR4 rectifier tube (europe value GZ34) swapping in a Solid State rectifier plug ($10) you would instantly recognize a tighter and dynamic low mids out of your amp and guitar. Some say thats the absolute best reissue 6V6... I still really enjoy NOS GE 6V6's and the french Mazda's are pricey goodies too.
If you did opt for 6L6 type small bottle tubes (the Tungsol reissue 5881s or TAD 6L6GC, or NOS JAN Phillips 6L6WGBs like setzer) I would then change the stock rectifier tube for a 5UG4 (big bottle) or the SS rectifier plug.
My early silverface Princeton Reverb had an original Jensen speaker in it and I was able to get an awesome sound out of the amp by swapping in Svetlana 6L6GC's with the SS rectifier plug... There's room for messing around on these amps (I can only vouch for pre CBS circuits / point to point vintage)
Putting in a 12" speaker requires the baffle to be removed along with a bit of routing along the bottom of the cab. It fits for sure.. this is what Randall Smith of Mesa boogie started with. Stickin JBL 12"s in with big ass Bassman transformers... the rest of the story continues with Santana..but thats a dirty hippie story. (man I love santana..stole some of his riffing stuff for one of my songs solos)

Just to understand you correctly. If I would have the TungSol 5881 then I would need to buy a Solid State rectifier plug like in this acution
hey here is that performance I was at this last jan for NAMM 09'.. I was really impressed with the bassist too!

just wanted to shear with you my new updated Princeton Reverb RI. Added 2 JJ`s 6V6, RCA 5UG4 Rectifier, Jan Philips 5751 & 12AT7WC and some JJ ECC83S, then a aged baffle, 12", and finally a Celestion G12H30. Just completed it, but at the volume 2 (kids asleep ) this amp is respoding to me like never before !, thight and warm, no farting from the speaker, just pure Rock`N`Roll sound. Can`t wait to gig with it this weekend. This is how I want it to sound and with a Nocturne just ordered, what more could I ask for... ?
A blondie ! Yeah of course, at a later stage

awesome, awesome, AWESOME!! That's exciting and truly a proper mod to a cool amp! I find I like input 2 best right now as its got a slight -db pad meant for humbuckers.. less bluesy and more clean n gritchy pickin' tone! Dont know if its exactly the same on the reissues as the oldies.
I just got in an original 65' Princeton amp (non reverb model) been giving it a run with a celestion blue alnico but I'm selling the blue to grab a G12H30 like yours.
Rig looks tight man!

I think the Princeton and G12H30 are ment to be Practiced together with the band yesterday and it was just there, right in the front of the whole sound picture, not to loud, not to rumbling like it was with the 10" Jensen. Nobody complained that it was to loud either With the treble on to 9,5 and the bass around 5 with the Gretsch, the amp is singing !
