| Heard some Lefty Frizell on satellite radio yesterday and was immediately smitten. The song caught my attention "always late with your kisses" because I am only use to hearing Dwight Yoakum sing it (thought it was his song) ..but upon hearing the smooth yodel like voice of Lefty I started searching for some of his music cuz when you mix that voice and the pedal steel...wwoooo | |

| LF is great! Merle Haggard recorded a fine version, of If you got the money, on his Roots vol.1 cd. | |

| I like Always Late, and I don't know if I was aware that Lefty was the original artist. I dig some old country stuff too. Cash probably dominates my cd player now, but I will sometimes get in the mood for some Hank. I like playing his songs more than I enjoy listening to the cds, if that makes any sense. I like the old Texas swing stuff too.

| Lefty Frizell & Merle Haggard are both great. Actually, I'm more in Hank Williams sounds. Songs like Honky Tonkin' (1949 version), Rootie Tootie... | |

| All those cats mentioned are great, especially Bob Wills, but there are few bigger influences from the great honky-tonk period post-Hank than Lefty Frizzell. The best bang for your buck in a Lefty Frizzell compilation is Look What Thoughts Will Do. Two discs containing 34 essential Lefty tracks. I found him via my affection for Dwight Yoakam's music. Lefty Frizzell is an absolutely vital, yet often overlooked part of honky tonk music. Great lyrics, smooth voice - this guy is the real deal. Thankfully, he was popular enough to have an affordable anthology like the one mentioned above. Of course, Bear Family covered him too, but I'll be needing a lottery payout before I pick up that one.
