| Does anyone know what pots are in the Epi Casino 250k? 500? I´ve tried with a mirrow through the f-hole but can´t see what it says.
My neck PU sounds dark and bassy so I´m thinking of maybe change the pots to get more treble in the sound.
If I do it should I do it with both? I´ve tried to raise the PU (it gave a little more volume) I´ve tried to raise the poles (Didn´t make any difference)
How does the Kent Armstrong p90 sound? are they good?
Thanks Ian | |

| all the epi semi hollows and hollows with humbuckers have 500K pots, even the es295s I have rewired had 500K pots installed. Stock pkups in all those guitars are shite, but of course not the instrument..great deal all around.
Kent Armstrong buckers are rather low output but they have a really really nice sheen to them and the middle position is jangle ville. Some might call them generic but Ive owned several Reverend Rocco's with them (american versions not the new imports)...
You might want to try a Seymour Duncan Jazz neck and a seymour duncan JB bridge in the nickel covers.. many a customer have been happy with me installing that combo in their ES335 style guitar...
of course you know I love Tvjones so I have to say I've installed power trons sets in a few cats epi dots, and I've dropped the ptrons in these guitars as well (search the posts on es-295).. Your casino has the stock p90s right? If so tvjones now has a a dog ear mount for the ptrons, a perfect drop in for you!!

| Thanks for your input TWT
Yes my ´08 Casino has the p-90 Pu
could a upgrade to a better volume pot give more treble to the sound?
also what about Capacitors, could it give more treble to neck PU. I always play with my volume on max.
TV´s is a lot of money for me right now (living in Denmark and with all the import-tax a set of Tv´s will cost me about 375$)
in fact I just pulled out a set of TV Jones Mag´natron from my Gretsch 5120 ( that´ll I try to sell or trade) and put the Gretschbuckers back in. I did´t like the sound of the Mag´natron.
THanks Ian | |

THanks Ian Did you say you raised the pickup poles yet? I'm sure you have.. A super easy, semi cheap fix is dumping your stock guitar cables (usual suspect is a pro co cable from guitar center about 18' to 25' long) and getting yourself a George L's 10' or 15' cable... This of course wont send a sonic shock of treble through your system but it will give a big dose of clarity to your rig. anyway, the pain in the arse but affordable help on those pkups would be a change in value. I get fender guys with their teles playing into mesa rectoverbs with super saturated over drive, whining about their high end being gone and they dont want to have to spend money on new speakers and tubes..so I change the stock fender 250K volume pot to 1Meg and the tone pot to 500K.. problem solved. You might try a CTS 1Meg audio pot and find you actually like your pkups? I'm about to do a reverse of this situation to a cat that has an LP with magnatrons, he thinks are too bright. I'm gonna pull the 500K's and install 250Ks.. quite cheaper a fix than having to buy yet another set of pkups, might work in your set up too? (thanks R9) here's those tvjones mounts for p90s w dog ears

| Yes I´ve tried to raise the poles as well. You got me thinking......Hmm... Maybe I could Put the TV magna´tron in the neck? what do think? I think the TV read about 4,2 and I guees the p90 bridge read about 7-8. So there could be a problem in getting the two Pu in balance?

And a little expencive FWIW... you'd be surprised at how easy it would be to drop the magna's into the existing pkup routes on that epi... you'd be one happy camper man! here's an epi dot with ptrons, I slightly routed out the cavity and the humbucker surrounds and these plopped right in snug.

| So here´s what I´m doing I´ve ordered 2 P90 dogear mounts from TV Jones So it´s gonna be a Casino with Supertron neck and classic plus bridge (after seeing Your guitar TWT, gave me the thoughts)
Ian oh yeah I forgot to tell you I´ve traded the Magnatrons -to supertron and classic plus PU, it´s was my plan to put them in my G5120 -but the Greatschbuckers is just growing on me. Sounds is almost like a 335 -great for the Chuck Berry and Dave Edmunds songs we play. So I thought I have my wildcat with p90 that sound so good, and plays really well, that I won´t be using my Casino anyway, so why not try the supertron and classic plus. Can´t wait to hear it -lets see if the neck PU still sounds dark and muddy. I´ll keep you informed Ian

and they dont drive you crazy with microphonic squealing? Several guys around here have dumped the stock p90s for other stuff because of the incomplete wax potting of the stock jobbies.

A friend of mine loaded his Wildcat with a pair of Lindy Fralins, and it turned into a TOTALLY different guitar. I'm a big fan of P90's, but the stock Wildcat was a squeeky-sounding earpincher Anders

| My Epi Wildcat is made in 2001. I never had any problem with it. Perhaps I´m just lucky or maybe the P90´s were made in another way back then.
