BSO opening for Bob Dylan in 1999

Eleven years ago the BSO was in the middle of a tour of the Eastern US opening shows for Bob Dylan. It's interesting that Brian would opt for an opening slot on a Dylan tour so soon after the mega-success of The Dirty Boogie.

It definately would have been a great show to see, though. Especially the February 13 & 15 shows during which Brian joined Dylan for several songs.

I was at the Nashville show and it brings back fond memories because it was my first Setzer show. I almost didn't go because I am not a big fan of Dylan, but I really wanted to see Setzer. Dylan is truly a poet, but I just don't like his voice.
I did think the pairing was an odd one, but it actually worked. I think that most people that listen to Dylan like to listen to a lot of different types of music, so the match up worked.
The band actually came on late.....very late. But when they did come on.......holy cow were they tight. They blasted through that setlist and in a whirlwind it was over. I would say that it was probably the best BSO show I have seen. They were at the top of their game.

I think Tommy was there also and I am sure he would reiterate what I am saying about this......

I've got a bootleg CD -not great quality -of the songs that Brian and Bob did together on Bob's encore I think. Only played it once years ago - was just for the collection really. Anyway it wasn't that spectacular - you had to be there I suppose!

Yeah, I was there. The BSO were fantastic that night. We had a blast at that gig. I bought a 1957 Gretsch at Gruhn's during that trip. Great days, musically and personally!
