Tavo, or anyone: tiki mugs?

I saw something that jumped out at me in the photos in Tavo's thread about his Blondeshell:



Now here's a mid-70's photo of my grandfather (and his sister in law. Who he'd just married. Long story.) at his super-cool bar. Notice the mugs in the upper left:



Those mugs used to scare the living daylights out of me when I was a kid. A year or so before he died, my grandfather asked if there was anything I wanted, and those mugs were it. Sadly they were long gone, but reproductions would be great!! So Tavo... where'd you get your mug?

Man, those mugs would have been great!! They're from a tiki restaurant called "Bali Hai", he's called "Mr. Bali Hai"

Unbelievable! They're from the restaurant right in my own hometown?! How did I not know that...

Boo. the Mr Bali Hai page on the restaurant's website throws a 404. Oh well, at least now I know how to find 'em!! Thanks Kid!

Haha no worries Andi... yeah they'll probably sell them at the restaurant, but you'll find them on eBay as well.. and even in thrift stores, especially around San Diego.

These are the originals from Bali hi on shelter island, one of the few original Tiki bar/restaurants still in existence..although this last christmas when we were there it looks like they are gonna change things inside which will suck if they mess with all the original post and beam work. I love that place
