the irony is that Setzer has turned the amp DOWN and the space echo preamp UP.. his tinnitus has forced him to wear fitting ear plug filters as well.
I mean it makes sense.. He wears suits too. He's now the "Maestro", not a rebellious kid

thats not loud J! My bassman is always at 4, anything less is like a neutered chihuaha Why do you think I had to build a sound resistant studio out in the back of the yard. I'd drive them nuts inside

Tavo, I need to check my video archive but I think that pic that is said to be, or you say to be from that Paris show, is not from that show. Sure it's from a French show in February 1982 but not that one.

are you referring to the discussion at the gretsch pages regarding the guitars and the pict by phillipe? if so ya I'd like help.. they are trying to tell me I'm wrong and even Brian posted and said he doesnt remember but he knows he didnt have a second backup gretsch with the same black pkguard because his girlfriends father at that time had made it for his guitar.
The variable is Slim Jims outfit.. and my questions would be "did the stray cats ever go backstage for a costume change" like Brian will sort of do with the BSO..
Also supposedly the 1982 they went backstage for an interview with the famous Be-bopallula unplugged.. or was that unplugged from the 81' show?

But there's evidence:
... and Brian admitted this on GDP:
Quote :
Holy Cow!! I did have a second guitar with that black pickguard! At least in that youtube photo. I have absolutely no recollection of it. You guys are like guitar detectives. Deke, that black pickguard is long gone,I'm just glad I still have the guitar. That Stray Cat Gretsch was stolen for two years, left in London taxi cabs, had beer poured on it,the neck snapped off it, and the damn thing is still the best sounding guitar I've ever heard.

All the old Stray Cats footage I've seen just shows them getting more and more undressed during their set... I believe a "costume change" would be limited to maybe putting on dry t-shirts/shirts before the encores.
But the vid you posted on the GDP thread was shot many years later than Phillippe's photo. No "mullet light" in the photo, and Brian's hair was dark. In the vid he also had the "Steve Miller 6120" without any pickguard at all.

The show is from Montreux in '81, . I have that DVD, though I never paid enough attention to see the guitar changes untill someone posted those youtube links. I did however notice the spare 6120 w/black pickguard the first time I saw the Rockpalast '81 gig, back in the mid-eighties...
BTW, an English bass playing friend of mine knew Brian and the Cats when they first came over to the UK. He has quite a collection of vintage Gretsches and other, less-interesting brands (read: Fenders and Gibsons ), and he once mentioned something about lending a 6120 to Brian as a backup back then. I'm thinking, since Brian doesn't remember the V-cut, blackguard one, maybe it actually belonged to Stewart...? I'll shoot him an email, maybe he can shed some light over the issue.

Sorry I had to edit the post..
Surfdog has asked me to filter post links to bootlegs or mp3 download sites as Dave Kaplan reads this forum and they've shared that Brian would prefer those not be spread around if possible.

No prob!
A tip to Surfdog: Release EVERYTHING Setzer/Stray Cats related in TV quality, that way the shows will be available legally. And the money will go where they should go, not to some random bootleger. With CD sales dropping, they need to figure out something extra to keep the money coming in. An "Anthology" type DVD box with all the video clips, concert footage, TV shows, interviews etc, is LONG overdue! I know all the fans on here will buy that. Right, guys?
That said, I don't believe these are "bootlegs" per se, 'cos they have bar codes and quality covers, and I've seen other DVDs from the same companies in stores. AC/DC, Metallica, Bon Jovi, Iron Maiden, Bruce Springsteen - they've ALL been un-officially released on DVD by the same company. As for AC/DC, after they made the "Family Jewels" and "Plug Me In" box sets (with many of the bootlegged clips in better quality), they've made these un-official DVDs obsolete.

Surfdog/Setzer don't own all that stuff, they couldn't do such a release even if they wanted to.
The TV shows and interviews and the like are likely the property of the stations/companies that made them.

Hey Tavo, aye, I was referring to that Grestch forum discussion.
The fact that the show is not Paris 1982 (well, there were 2 shows that evening!) is because the second one, was aired on TV, some 50 min. I got it and Slim Jim wasn't wearing that outfit.

Tavo (again), it's quite surprising that Brian remembers anything related to shows/tours. I mean, it's his job and every show should be like the other ones, so... no wonder!!
I remember I gave him (Brian) a 2CD set in Amsterdam with his guest appearances and he was actually quite surprised by the compilation... I wonder whether he took the time to listen to it and finally, remembers all the songs he was on... Maybe one day I could meet him again just to give him the update (w/ Glen Campbell) and ask him whether I was right with the compilation (ex: Bob Geldof or Fastball)

Believe me Andi, I know - but when Sony managed to pull it off for AC/DC, it's not entirely impossible, is it...? Especially if keeping those "bootlegs" (that probably are legit - although unofficial - releases) so secret is such a big deal to them.

For the record, I didn't post a download link (I HATE illegal downloads!), it was just a link to an archive that showed the DVD I was referring to.
