| We just found out that Universal City walk booked a FREE concert starring Cobey Kaley in the plaza this is sponsored by the Salvation Army.. Its normally pretty packed down there once it gets dark and parking gets tough. Hearing this news means its going to be a DAMN jungle so you will need to get there REALLY early I'm guessing if you want to find parking for the Gibson theater. just a heads up.. we're getting there by 3pm and hanging out I guess.. grrrr I hate malls and crowds. http://eventful.com/universalcity_ca/events/colbie-caillat-/E0-001-044280928-6 | |

The show was the best since the 2004 DVD filming of Setzer Xmas xtravaganza, Brian was on his game man, he was on fire. I could see he was really having fun and got loose! I personally didnt care for the 3 bass riot thing too much but I know for the average attender that kind of stuff is exciting, my kids were screaming out of their seats watching it as were many in the crowd. Definitely a great creation for upping the entertainment factor. It went perfect as the between orchestra sets and even though Brian was technically "playing the bass" is was more of a vaudeville moment and you could see on his face he took great pleasure in making everyone smile and applaud. Its great to see him in this environment and that place was packed and going wild, he had em all in the palm of his hand. a Master performer across the board. My favorite was him singing blue christmas with his wife, I love their voices together. ya ya I'm a nut, I love Brian Setzer but I think its the whole holiday experience down there. we live in so cal but Universal City (los angeles/hollywood) is an entirely different world than suburbia where we live so its very exciting.

| Our seats were in the nosebleeds and we were with a bunch of friends so I didn't have a night like I normally would have for Setzer. Didn't keep or acquire a setlist so can't help with that, also didn't take any pics (sorry guys ) I'm sure somebody got a setlist, so I won't try to remember, but I'd say they did about half and half Christmas and non-Christmas, if I recall correctly the trio set was mostly Christmas tunes with the bass feature with Chris D'Rozario being during Fishnet Stockings, then Rock This Town was the trio-back-to-orchestra transition tune. I don't know for sure but I don't recall anything from Lonely Ave OR Instru-MENTAL!? Setzer was definitely excited to play with the big band again, even mentioned the fact that they hadn't played together in two years and sounded SO GOOD! (I know they sound good from experience, but from our seats way in back to stage left, it wasn't that great. The bass was a boomy mess all night, which was especially disappointing during the upright feature.) I know their front of house engineer travels with them and I would imagine they have their own lighting person too... I wish they could have someone to do video switching for venues like this one where folks in the back rows will spend most of the time watching the big screens rather than looking at the stage itself. The person switching the video Saturday night obviously didn't know the music, the solos, who to show when, there were even lots of tight shots on empty microphones and a huge number of totally missed solos. It was a frustrating way to watch a show! (I may have to contact Surfdog and offer up my services. I know the music inside and out and switching live video is what I do for a living!!) I have come to realize being that removed from the action is no way to see a Setzer show, especially if the sound is going to disappoint. From now on, for Setzer, it's pit or nothing. If I can't afford the pit, I'm not going to spend the money to watch lousy video and bad sound - I'd rather stay home and watch my Montreal DVD. | |

| the lodge has the absolute best sound cuz when we ran up to the back of the amphitheater to bail quickly just before the snow fell at the encore I thought our ears were going to bleed from the treble.. and yes I remember the balcony having massive booming. All to say the sound in the middle of the place around the mixing console is the best I even hi five'd jmbo the sound guy. Ps. that pit looks like a human zoo of christmas sweater hell. If I was to go to hell it would be the pit at Gibson ewwww germs and sweat, sweat and germs. Andi you DID have a good time right??? (and yes the video guys sucked, what was with that santa shot all the time) | |

Not as good as I should have - I'm too young and crazy about the music to sit quietly back in the back and watch it like it's an opera or something. That's not how I enjoy experiencing music, and certainly not Setzer. For as exciting as I could tell it was closer to the stage, it loses a lot up there in the cheap seats. One of the people in our party, who doesn't know Setzer music at all other than Rock This Town and Stray Cat Strut, actually dozed off - that's frustrating and disappointing when you tell someone it'll be the best show they've ever seen and they fall asleep. Two of the other people we took, also Setzer newbies, just complained about the sound and video - during the show, rather than waiting til after. That's really a bring down for people like me, who try to enjoy it in spite of the negatives. Two other folks we went with who paid for much better seats thought it was an awesome show. Lesson learned.
