...in another thread that I still have some vacancies in my Setzer collection:
Quote :
Even Andi, who wrote such an amazing essay regarding her passion for the music of Setzer, took nearly a decade off from following Brian's career, soliciting Setzer fans last year for ideas on which of the albums from 2001-2007 she should buy first.
After getting advice from everyone, I bought Red Hot & Live, the Ultimate Collection and 13. All excellent additions, but I think Red Hot and Live is my favourite from the bunch. So now here's what I'm missing:
Wolfgang's Big Night Out Rumble in Brixton All 2004 live CDs (I don't feel the need to own all of 'em- but is there one that stands out?) Nitro Burnin' Funny Daddy Vavoom! Let's Go Faster Rock Therapy (I previously owned the last 3 on the list but sold/gave them away years ago. Now I want them again!)
I should also point out that I own NO Stray Cats/Setzer DVDs and probably should. I seem to recall there was a collection of all the Stray Cats music videos, which I'd love to have, but I don't see it listed on the official DVD release page.
So.... what should I buy next?

Well, here's my recommendations for what they're worth:
Definitely get Wolgang
Get the "Rumble in Brixton" DVD instead of any of the CD's
Avoid "Nitro Burnin' Funny Daddy" at all costs, I mean really, just say NO!
Do say yes to "Rock Therapy", "Let's go Faster" & "Vavoom"

What's your budget??
I would definitely put Vavoom! at the top of the list, excellent choice! Followed shortly by Wolfgang. Be prepared for something different with WBNO, it seems people either love it or hate it. I love it because it's different.
I have to respectively disagree about NBFD. I like it, even though it doesn't get as much play time as some of the other CD's. Not a top pick, but I wouldn't leave it out of a collection.
Let us know what you choose, and what your opinions are!

Firstly Andi, may I humbly suggest Rumble In Brixton on DVD AND CD.It's simply the MUST HAVE Stray Cats live concert. The quality of the product is fantastic. Of the other 2004 Euro Tour Manchester is a cracking concert and of superior quality to some of the others(I have them all).
The greatest hits DVD is getting harder to find but is available here
I wouldn't be without anything Brian has released in my collection. It all depends on the mood doesn't it?Sometimes you will play an album after a lengthy gap and hear it in a whole new light. And there are always a few tracks you will pick out and playlist on your iPod or whatever.
Hope this helps Steve

????? andi I thought you had all of Brian's cds by now because you have been a fan longer than I have!
if you really want to listen to some cool classical music, try this one:
This classic album Switched on Bach (the first pic) was released the year I was born (yeah, pretty old!) and has become pretty popular throughout the decades because of the uniruqe use of the Moog synth
the Moog was also used here, a popular Disney attraction

Andi, in my opinion, Wolfgang's Big Night Out, Nitro Burnin' Funny Daddy and Rumble In Brixton are "must". Do not hesitate, buy this three ones ! And, more, you'll have a BSO, a solo and a Cats album here. It's full ! The three others are excellents but... A little under.

Andi, I think that you won't be missing anything interesting if you don't have vavoom, nitro and let's go faster. On the other hand, Rock Therapy is a MUST despite many negative critics

I'm sticking to my guns on NBFD. A sad, bitter, angry album; truly a low point in Setzer's career. Pass!

Well all are entitled to their opinion, but on NBFD, "Drink Whiskey & Shut Up"comes across as an angry, drunken homophobic rant, while "When the Bells don't Chime" is the height of hypocrisy. I mean, what was that? How dare you divorce me, just because you caught me fooling around on you? PULEEEEZZZZ!!!!

I'd wager that Rumble in Brixton and any of the others 2004 concerts are probably interchangable. I only have Brixton and it's everything I need it to be.
Rock Therapy is fantastic.
Wolfgang is a good disc, but I've found it's the one I listen to least (excluding the seasonal Christmas discs.
Nitro Burnin is also low in my replay rotation as a complete disc, but if you do the download individual tracks thing, TO BE LOVED is Setzer DooWop at it's best. I'm also a big fan of WILD WIND. For me it reminds me some of a kind of late 60s country music that was almost cinematic in nature. For me, it just kind of conjures a sweeping western epic feel whenever I hear it.
I like Vavoom. I'm not sure the album is a must have, but the tracks GLORIA, JUKEBOX and AMERICANO are favs on the disc for me.
And if you don't have them, try to track down, (for free of course) the fan recorded (by Judy Heil I believe) '68 Comeback Special Live at the Coachouse and Live at the Belly Up recordings. For fan recorded shows, they're pretty good. And to me, that whole era, when Brian put together the 68 CBS, represents the highest point of Setzer fandom on the internet. Great times!

Thanks jshea, I do have those recordings thanks to a good friend here at the HDVDL. I was at the Belly Up show, which makes it very special to me.

Funny, I would put Nitro Burnin' Funny Daddy at the top of my list. I love the music!!! The lyrics may not be to everyone's tastes, but honestly I didn't even realise the lyrics of the 2 songs mentioned. Personally that would be my number one pick, but they're all great. My type of music is a harder edge, that's why this is my pick.

The Rumble in Brixton DVD is excellent - watched that hundreds of times. Rumble in Brixton double cd is very good (best sound out of the 17 2004 live cds) It's good for a live album but don't expect the crisp greatness of 'BSO's ultimate collection' which is the best live Setzer i've ever heard.) As you've already owned 'Vavoom' i don't have to tell you how good it is - half the tracks are amazing to me.
My order would be:
Vavoom! Let's Go Faster Rock Therapy Rumble in Brixton (but it's nothing compared to the dvd) Nitro Burnin' Funny Daddy All 2004 live CDs Wolfgang's Big Night Out (only recommended if you enjoy classical music)
But apart from the dvd i'd only list the first two as Setzer favourites. I would only add that some Setzer cds need a while to get use to - maybe that's why you sold them in the beginning.
'You don't know what you've got, untill you lose it' - Eden Kane song.

Yeah ,he got the sound perfect on Vavoom. Even though I dislike Gettin in the mood. Two other top tracks from that album were Footloose Doll and From Here To Eternity, The japanese version (which I have ) also has a decent Bill Haley cover of Rockabeatin Boogie. The Rumble in Brixton DVD is a must have ,I think ,then you needn't bother getting any of the other 2004 cds.

Thanks for everyone's input on and off the forums, it really helped me decide. Rumble in Brixton DVD is a definite, and I'm going to see if I can get meself a copy of that Stray Cats music video DVD- that'll be it for now. I'll start picking off the rest as finances allow!!
