| As I stated on another topic, these forums are privately operated public forums. The person who creates, monitors, and maintains the forums is the only one entitled to freedom of anything. IF the proprietor decides to pull the plug for any reason, even if it's just to get some relief from the headache it was starting to become, that is well within their rights. We are owed nothing.
Is it unfortunate? Absolutely. Was it necessary? With all that Jean Genie crap, the irresponsible glorification of potentially dangerous behavior (running on stage), and people getting jealous and bitchy, and the constant digressions into trite conversations best left to emails, that forum probably needed a break. Witty banter is one thing, but the constant back and forth between people organizing their weekly social calendars (and little of it Setzer-related) was, in my opinion, tedious to sift through. I've made great friends through these forums, but there comes a time when what is posted serves little public benefit, and is best taken to PM's, emails, or phone conversations. Or...
Chat Rooms - Anyone notice we've got one here? Check out the bottom of the page. That might be where the miscellaneous stuff that you might text, PM, or email, like "it was great hangin' out, Joe." "You're the best, mate." could be displayed.
So rather than wringing our hands about whether or not closing the official forum was excessive, relax and enjoy the Hoodoo Voodoo Lounge. Let's try and give the knuckleheads as little attention as possible, and continue some of the great discussions we had over there. Last time I heard, there was a tour going on. Let's talk about that. (and photos, please!)

Yes, but when you have an open message board where anyone can get there and post, you know that you are exposed to some stupid comments and critics. That´s why there´s a moderator and has the right to ban people. Closing a whole message board by an incident that didn´t even happen there, makes people talk about it even more. And like I said, I don´t think anyone would get on the board to support the incident. It could probably have been a way to show the idiot that threw the knife that no one was with him on this one. It doesn´t really affect me the closing down of that board because I didn´t even sign up there; the closing down of that board is actually benefiting this one, that is gaining some new and old members that had "left the building". BUT THAT´S NOT the point. There are issues at ALL message boards constantly, and usually they are not shut down. But well, it is their decission.

| "but the constant back and forth between people organizing their weekly social calendars (and little of it Setzer-related) was, in my opinion, tedious to sift through. I've made great friends through these forum" hi rickabilly, you are a man of many wise words but i'm sure you will agree that everyone is entitled to their opinion...if i might venture mine... from what i gather you had a problem with the other forum regarding tedious posts, i'd like to give you another insight to that...i am probably one of the said offenders but i'd like to point out that in the land of forums there are a lot of lurkers about, i am going to see the cats in dublin but due to circumstances(kids, moving to where houses are more affordable etc) i lost contact with the "scene" because of posting certain things on the forum i am now meeting up with some people and the weekend will be now more enjoyable ...this could not have been done through posting pms etc...i am sure certain people may have found sorting out these arrangements boring but if you read the topic title you'll get the general gist and will descide to read or ignore and you'd be surprised how many "lurkers" would then get in touch...as you have mentioned you've made many friends through the forums i for one love reading the commentry between are aussie friends which a lot has come from reading through their "aussie posts" as i enjoyed reading the posts recently about the cats in america....the moral?????? if you sense from the post that it might not interest you ignore but realise that other people might get something out of it... my other point is about the other forum closing...as we all know tommy takes it in his personal time to run it and from what i gather tommy is a personal friend of brian...my opinion(sorry i have a lot of them today, kids are away and i've too much time to think ) maybe tommy just wants some time out to see how his friends are doing without having to monitor the forum because how ever we all like to think the guys are now middle aged men who have families and who didn't sign on to get the beejesus knocked out of them... oh by the way hellooooo everyone...... i know its my first time posting but i'm one of those lurkers i was mentioned hope i havn't offended anyone | |

I suspect that may have been a major consideration in the closing of the other forum!

| Wise words by Rickab and SDavid. I don't know exactely where I stand on this one. It's Tommy's board, I liked to read the info that was provided and shared over there but offcourse he hasn't got any obligations to me. If he wants to close it down or run it his way that's fine by me! On the other hand I do not understand why it seems that it is absolutely not done to say something not positive about Brian.. Not that I think that's necesary but don't see what's the problem with it. The mayority will disagree. Back and forth talking about it is anoying and maybe could be stopped at some point but just delete or schut down (possible) unwanted comments seems realy strange to me and not realy down to earth.. And about this trowing incident and endourcers: people as stupid as that will not be able to use a computer let alone find and use a message board..
Good to be back around here. Immediately re-registered after 'the regristration loss' a couple of months ago but never activated my account then. And yes, last time I heard there was a tour going one? Let's talk about it!

| With Tommy being the sole moderator of the other board, he has certainly earned the rest. Excellent point, Cos! People who didn't think the board was getting that out of hand probably missed some of the more combative posts and threads that were deleted soon after posting. Tommy needs to enjoy his time in the UK, and not worry about babysitting a forum.
I got carried away (certainly not the first time) with addressing the "outrage" surrounding the official board closing. Truthfully, I don't mind the individual conversations into which the various threads disintegrate. It all contributes to the sense of community that makes the Setzer forums so appealing. I wasn't referring to all the people who talk about meeting up before shows and the like. Certainly, watching people get unduly wound up by people who are there solely to push your buttons is far worse than glancing past two locals sorting out dinner plans for a Tuesday night. And for that, there's plenty of room in the "Off-topics" section.
Pull up a chair and set a spell. What time is dinner?

| Greetings all,
I'm so sad to have to reconnect with all of you under such circumstances. I'm not sure whether I ever posted on the other board. I know that I visited it a few times, and I had posted from time to time on the original "official" board about eight or nine years ago.
I'm just writing to let you know that I spent last summer working security at the Shoreline Amphitheatre in Mountain View CA. It is disheartening to see the things that people will try to bring in. Please try to be courteous to the searchers. It is a very unpleasant job, and customers are not always very nice. The worst ones are the ones who "forgot" that they were carrying a pocket knife. We were able to check forbidden chairs, umbrellas, and coolers, but we had a strict standing order to not check weapons. That meant that the offender either had to throw their knife away or make a second round trip back to their car. Some would just walk 50 yards away and hide their knife in the bushes, a practice that I think that we should have policed better. Anyway, most of you have been to many many concerts. You know the rules before you go. Don't make security's job difficult by overpacking or trying to sneak forbidden items in. You can always drink before and after the show. How important is it to have access to cheap alcohol for the few hours that you are there?
I hold you all in the highest regard.
Best wishes,
T | |

| There's a comment now on YouTube saying it was a comb in the style of a switchblade. That's irrelevant!!!!!! What kind of moron would throw an object that looks like a knife? Anyone would have thought 'oh sh!t someone threw a knife at me' not 'oh look a comb in the shape of a switchblade' Sheer stupidity!!!!! | |

| I'm amazed Brian even came back on after that.. Don't worry Brian, you'll be safe in Australia.. our traditional weapon is the boomerang and no one really knows how to use them (not that we'd use them against you anyway...) Kid. | |

| Brian really acted like a gentleman coming back for a encore after all that shit... He's definitely a good guy, a "Monsieur" as we say in french. It's the first I see him like that (without his kid's smile) at the end of a gig. He's upset and he's right to be upset. What a shame ! | |

| I think Brian's reaction was pretty reasonable, when you consider he has NO CLUE what the hell someone might be throwing at him at the time it's being thrown.
Now, the Josh Homme video, yeah, he's pissed. And I don't blame him, but at the same time, I'm glad Brian didn't go off like that. Yikes!
Whatever happened to....It's all about the music???

Somebody said this in the comments on youtube. I can imagine that it must be terrible when you've got the feeling that you can be attacked or have somthing thrown at you all of the time. It seems to me that Brians is really aware of that. In 2004 in Amsterdam some big tatood guy climbed on stage and danced with the cats. Brian looked really startled. 3 security guys could not get him of and after a few seconds he went by himself. In hmh last week Brian asked the audience if we had a lighter (can't remember the song but probably to light it at a ballad or something) and imediately a dozen came flying on stage.. That was funny though..

| By the way... that Josh Homme... he thinks he is way too cool....
He should be sued for inciting to violence.
I´d like to see if he was half of the man he was without security and being in front of thousands.
