fantastic voice, brilliant show and a tight dress, that´s Imelda May.
For the guitar slinger: Darrel is a awesome player, he`s playing a White Falcon with Bridge Dynasonic and a Neck P90 Pick up. He is a bit reserved indeed but when we gave him a extra hand after a solo i saw a smile...
Pics will follow now i have to work first and i`m f*&%*$g tired.

Hey Brett, yeah, Imelda is pure talent.
Darrel was wonderful in Madrid too BUT (yes, there's always a BUT, heheh): from my point of view, he should have been more participative, like the rest of the band. Besides, my friend and I were shouting 2-3 times "Darrel, Darrel" and Imelda was even surprised by that, replying with "oh, that's great!", without Darrel even bothering to smile... After the show, he didn't show up at the merch booth. Of course he is not obliged to do so, but Imelda did together with the rest of the band... at least in Madrid, many people went to see Darrel, not just Imelda.
In any case, her show was flawless and it's possibly the best show I've ever seen.
Look forward to seeing her again!!

Yep, her show is definately flawless ,beyond doubt. I wouldnt have a problem with Darrell being in the background on stage or not hanging around after the show though. I just think, that though his guitar playing is spot on in every way, that it should be made to stand out more as part of the show and not just as a background for Imelda. But overall ,he sounds the part, he looks the part and the whole package is suberb. What she like close uo Jon, is she small ? What you think of her speaking voice ? would you be able to understand her Dublin accent ?

Lord Vincent, woawwwh, she was quite small, even with those 10cm high heeled shoes. Her voice, sweet as her songs, and yes, I could understand her Dublin accent ;-) After a while with the Brummies, in Yorkshire and Scotland, I am able to distinguish the hardest accents, heheh. Well, I guess this helps, but I must confess that she spoke with a more or less neutral/flat accent so that everyone could understand her.

The Les Paul tribute concert hosted by Jeff Beck (with Darrel Higham and Imelda May, who were touring with Jeff at the time) will be airing on US public television Saturday, November 27th. This is the show recorded earlier this year at the famous Iridium night club on the night where Brian Setzer sat in on a couple of numbers as well. Hopefully, a DVD release is imminent!

thank you, Slim Jon. Chicago is the closest she'll be to me (about 6hrs). Now to convince my husband- I think he may have a *little* crush, so it should be easy to talk him into it I can't seem to find the PBS show on tv this Saturday- anybody know any more details? I did find a show on Albert King, so I've got that set to tape.

One of the drawbacks of living in a culturally-rich area like the Twin Cities is that their PBS stations are full of locally-generated programming. Between St Olaf programs, the Chamber Orchestra, college hockey and other programming with Minnesota origins or a strong following (Lawrence Welk), a lot of programs that are supplied by PBS nationally get bumped on occasion.
If you have friends and family in central or west-central Minnesota, (or have satellite TV with extra PBS channels) Pioneer Public TV is airing it at 10:30pm on Saturday. My guess is that the program will air eventually in the Minneapolis area, possibly during a pledge drive (perhaps they can get Setzer on to shill for the local TV station when it airs in the Twin Cities, sharing stories about this incredible night.) That's a shame it's not airing now, with Setzer now living in Minneapolis. Hopefully, the DVD will be available soon, as they usually have plenty of extra footage not aired in their 60-minute programming slot. Plenty of markets are getting the program this Saturday, including California, Illinois, parts of Minnesota, North Dakota, and Nebraska.

thanks, Rickabilly. Yes, we do have an "extra" PBS station and I think that's where the Lawrence Welk special is playing I think John Sebastian is the special that interrupts the Imelda May/Jeff Beck spot. I'll keep my eyes peeled. It would be awesome to have the man HIMself on the fund drive- great idea! I have the feeling it won't happen, though. I just searched the PBS site and it is playing THurs Dec 2 at 9pm on WNET- I don't have that channel. Arrrrrgggggh! Ok, eventually it'll show up...

FINALLY got my copy of Mayhem (Amazon kept delaying and delaying so I got it from a local shop with great imports- why didn't I think of that in the first place?!) Anyway, Imelda does not disappoint- she is awesome!

Couldn't get over how strong her Irish accent is! Check out the interview with Graham Norton after she sings:

Her accent is very particular to the area of inner city Dublin, where she is from. Graham Norton is from Bandon in County Cork but he doesnt have a strong Cork accent. the real Cork accent is one of the wackiest. There are countless different Irish accents, even in County Kerry where I live, there are probably 4 or 5 accents. I think she is gorgeous, as my cousin would say "I'd eat chips out of her knickers".

LOL!!!! But no accent can beat the Yorkshire one, honestly. Maybe I love this accent because it was the first English/British accent I've ever heard (of course in UK!), but I find it really cool. Maybe not the best, but sure the funniest. I wouldn't say I have a decent British accent, but there's a twang there somehow!
Awwww, wish Imelda was Yorkie!!!

Saw Imelda May live in Oslo yesterday. All I can say is "WOW!!!" Fantastic gig, and what a tight band! Excellent musicianship from Darrel, Al, Steve and Dave. Not to mention Imelda's wonderful voice and stage prescence. The perfect way to spend a Thurday night. I didn't even need coffee or Red Bull to stay awake during the two-hour drive back home...
A bunch of us got to talk to Imelda and Darrel after the gig (Darrel's played Norway quite a few times, so we "know" him a bit from the Enforcers' days), and - to use a clichè - fame hasn't changed them. They're just the nicest people around! And did I mention, the gig was fantastic?!? Oh, and we were even mentioned in bass man Al Gare's BLOG (as "Darrel's stunt doubles"... )
