Its not a volume thing, the video cam cant handle the mids crunch.. he's got both the amps volume at "1" in the video. although make no mistake. the Psycho devilles are kickin ass and takin names. Very much like reverend horton heat operates with his Super reverb 410 and silverface twin (sometimes a vibroking and deluxe).

Okay, as mentioned in the other thread I used the Nocturne on a Gig with the Bigband for the first time on Thursday, so it's time for my first Live-impressions with that pedal
In the Bigband I normally have to stay more in the background and just build up a good fundament for the Horns. But I also do Solo improvisation, and that's when it's getting interesting.
So, for the normal rhythm playing I just send the Guitar Signal straight into the amplifier, and I can adjust it to an fitting sound-level. But for soloing that's waaaaaaaay to silent. I normally had to roll down the Volume pot (what killed a lot of the sound) , so I was able to roll it up, when I came to my parts. Now I just set my guitar up to an appropriate sound, and when I play a Solo I stomp on that blue Box of Brain Seltzer, and my sound and Volume-level is perfect for fighting against 15 Horns!
But best really is, that I now have the ability to switch to a perfect BSO-Sound.
Gotta convince our Leader to play Dirty Boogie now!

a volume kit and tone kit needs to be in place on that guitar and there would be no need to do anything but control from theguitar. See the video I posted with my 6 yr old dressed like a st paddy's cat. I demonstrate what putting the resistor&pot across the wipers of your master volume does.. (although its nec. to have your tone circuit bypassed via a push/pull pot or switch)

YEHAAWWW Chris! Whish i played chet tunes at your age Really good demo! I am now regularly gigging with my nocturne (once a week). Different placs, with different volumes on amp and on the preamp section of my TTE, nocturne set on 11 am (bass cut) and 4pm gritsch. Gives me the right sound everywhere!

I think I have a tear in my eye! that was sweet and when the video hits 3:30 I was so impressed that the Line6 spider would respond so dynamically to the nocturne.
..but MOST OF ALL I kept thinking throughout this whole clip (and from many of the other members on this forum) "I hope Setzer understands how much he has influenced several generations and doesnt just put stuff like this in a box of accolades on the shelf". I know I built the preamp but it does absolutely nothing unless a guitarist picks up his instrument and creates music, more so to share it. That comes from witnessing guitar greatness born'd in Massapequa and hammered out all over the globe!
These videos you guys do whether using the nocturne or not, I hope will be trophies to Brian. I know if he'd gotten the grammy off his new album it would have meant a better income from sales but that isnt as good as these videos on the HDVDL. These are a testament man!!
I dont know the guy from adam but I know Setzers music and his sound, I see the inspiration in the guitar fans and its a blessing to me that these exist!

Forgive me for repeatin myself over different posts but I still have the problem of losing my guitar volume taper when I plug my gretsch hotrod into the nocturne. Im runnin it thru a Marsh bassman and ive had the TV Jones treble bleed fitted as well but still no joy. As ive said before its only when the nocturne is engaged and what happens is the guitar master vol loses the smooth taper and acts more like an on/off switch. Technically im a Luddite so im hopin someone out there can investigate and solve it....please..( beg.. beg ..grovel

Any preamp with significant volume/gain is going to do this to your guitar. I've tested this with my SSLVO (no mods) and the second I turn my master vol it sounds like I shut off the guitar.. same with the TIM boost, same with LRbaggs pre.. not the same with the vol. kit on the other SSU.. I'm confused as to why your jones vol kit isnt workin right.
Answer me this; pickups run to 3 way selector switch with ground leads both soldered to the body of the switch..then the hot lead and ground run over to the master volume (only volume on htrod).. ground lead is soldered to back of a 500K audio taper pot, hot lead is soldered to the left lug of the pot. Then... the right lug is soldered to the body of the pot(grounded). .....then the hot lead that is soldered to the middle lug and ground lead on the body of the pot go straight to the output jack to which the hot lead is soldered to the tip and the ground lead is soldered to the ring with a thin black ground going from that to the guitar body out and agains the bigsby mount plate.
all sound correct? if so then answer this.. the volume kit you purchased consists of a .0001uf polyester cap and 150K carbon film resistor? if yes.. are those two components soldered in PARALLEL across the 500K audio taper pots left and middle lug?
If the answer to ALLLLL of this yes then you might want to try what Josh bradshaw offers as an option "you could put a resistor in series (about half the value of the pot) and another in parallel. The value of the cap determines the frequency (and above) at which the cap will pass signal. There is no roll-off, there is just a certain part of the frequency range that is allowed to bypass the pot itself. "
on my SSU.. I run my pickups to their prospective vol pot. but I place the pkups hot wired to the center lug (ground to back) but run the sending hot lead from the left outside lug over to the 3 way switch (this is opposite of what gretsch does).
I share this because you might find you have better control by swapping the hot lead running from your switch that is going to the left outside lug with the middle lug. So... that the hot lead to the output jack that "was" on the center lug is now on the outside left instead.
see if that helps... or follow the tip of Josh.. mine is easier though

Sorry but tried all of the above and still no joy so i suppose Ill have to live without the guitar vol taper. Thanks for the help tho cos at least I tried it.

Ok, here's the latest update on my personal quest for the TONE. Since i use the nocturne between my gretsch and the Fulltone TTE the sound improved really. Only thing that concerned me was the loss of highs that comes from using the TTE. I don't know why this is so, or if every other tube tape echo (old ones or new) have the same "issue" (the TTE is still for me after millions of dough spent in other delay pedals the best choice for THAT sound), but for me that was it. Yesterday i tried to put an RC Boooster (Gain 6am, Volume, treble, bass on 12am) on the output side of the TTE and "magic" happened! Without changing in the overall behaviour of the Gretsch - Nocturne - TTE sound, the the treble are there again. I still have to check this setup on live stages. So in conclusion: why can't fulltone build simply a Tape Echo with the Nocturne Preamp in it? Or maybe that could be the next challenge after the Blondshell for Mister Nocturne Himself? Eh Tavo?

I think I'll let Mike Fuller carry out his passion in recreating the Maestro Echoplex! sounds like a nightmare to me ps. I am making a new version of the Nocturne though, meant for single coil guitars.. leaner with more bite. should be done after we get this Blondeshell amp complete in the next few weeks

Its going to benefit any pickup that sits higher than 6-7K impedence. Classics are aaround 4.5K as are vintage single coils, maybe even old PAFs.. I want to give the hotter pickup guys the benefits of what this thing does to filtertrons.

So I know this guy called Tavo. Never met him in the flesh, but we've spoken a couple of times on the phone and via this forum, facebook and myspace. He's helped not only me, but many others achieve a certain sound that we craved for. This is my thank you to him.

I got a hold of the Samson Airline Wireless and used it over a couple of gigs, Boy it really kills the Bottom end goes and creates a nasty distortion (only slight but enough to be noticeable), soon as I changed back to a cable the tone was back again.
